Refractors
Refractors are commonly found deep within dungeons as the cores of various constructs or ancient machinery. This is because they provide power to technology at varying degrees, dependent on their coloring and can be used or sold for reasonable sums of money. Refractors are also known to be a repository for vast caches of data. This can be extracted from the refractor, but with the removal of the data, the refractor losses its ability to produce energy and loses its coloring to become gray and clouded. As a final use, large and powerful refractors have been known to possess a powerful Drive at its core! Extracting this Drive ruins the refractor, destroying all data and rendering its power production to nothing.
Utility
They are used to power machinery and objects, possess caches of data, and hold unique or strange Drives within them sometimes.

The lesser varieties are very common, and are used in the day to day of peoples lives within larger cities. The larger, more uncommon ones, are found within government facilities or specialized groups experimenting with old world tech.
Complexity
Being that they provide several varying commodities, they are very complex. And to this day, no one has been able to reproduce their construction, although several factions try.
