Lord Roland Wayland
ord Roland Wayland, 'the King who kneeled'. Different histories from the different corners of this world paint the penultimate ruler of Eá-galwen in many different lights. He was described as a tall and broad shouldered man, of middle age when he was slain. He always wore the ancestral crown of Avanís which represented his authority as the Gods' chosen caretaker of Eá-galwen. Previous members of the Wayland family were said to have dreams of foresight, however no evidence remains to suggest that Roland himself had the prophetic dreams of his kinsmen. To the people of the Heartlands - including the denizens of Port Montague and Whimbrel but even going as far as Dol Gadmen - the King was a wise and temperate ruler who had the wisdom to avoid the annihilation of his people. To the supporters of Avlar in Trinity or in the free city of Helias, Roland is seen as a feeble fool who allowed Avlar to descend upon the rest of this world in his conquest and eventual rise to divinity. Despite what the history books say, Roland Wayland was laid to rest in the Grand Crematorium outside of Whimbrel, his ancestral home, with the blessing of the first of the Davistan emperors. His burial mound was unmarked and unadorned, surrounded by the slain and fallen from Avlar's conquest of Eá-galwen that lie around him. His legacy has fallen into much disrepair, as the current heir to the Wayland line, Lord Emilio Wayland, feuds with his eldest daughter The Knight of Flowers. What was once a great line of kings have been reduced to the squabbling feudal lords who claim lordship over Whimbrel.
