Knights of the Eclipse

"Fear No Darkness" - Knight Commander Kai'ale II     There are many knightly orders in Daënfel, though none are more fabled as the Eclipse Knights.   The Eclipse Knights were formed by Emperor Valeran Davistan I, in memory of the knights who followed Ser Ecbert in his quest to retake the doors of The Maw and push back the tide of Darkness that had erupted from The Breach, ending in their deaths.   There are no warriors more experienced at hunting creatures of The Maw than those of the Eclipse. During their earliest years, the knights were a hand-picked bunch - mostly already renowned knights who were known across the first communities of the Empire during its earliest years. These knights were brought to Ban Elsir during the construction of Hope, the city of Dawn and were then heavily funded and equipped by the young Emperor, charged with safeguarding the first large convoys of trade between the major cities of the The Dawning Empire.   Where the Dawn Guard are the shining, heroic bastions defending the light of civilization, the Eclipse Brotherhood are the defenders of the night. Stalking the wilderness and paths seldom travelled, these fearsome warriors battle against the fiercest of creatures in the darkest corners of the Empire.   After two centuries of successful campaigning against all manner of creatures that spawned from the Maw - werewolves to liches and even a dragon - the knights are revered as guardians of the darkest corners of the Empire. It is rare to see one of their number in a town or city, with the vast majority of their forces stationed at the Maw. Knights of this order can most often be seen in a chance encounter on the road, or around Lake Lumelor defending the Empire from the abyss Below.   No matter their number or fame, they remain a highly trained and respected name within the Empire who are sworn to the defend the Empire, no matter who sits the Golden Throne.   The current leader of the Eclipse Knights is Karrar, Icon of the Moon.
