Helias Architecture

The remnants of Old Nissia are clear in all aspects of Helias's culture, but none are more apparent than its architecture.

Towering columns, high ceilings, painted murals and reliefs framed on light stone - these all mark the slave-built palaces that the Sultans lived in across the Nissien Coast centuries ago. Competition amongst the Sultans was fierce, with each seeking to outdo the other in grandeur shows of wealth and power.   These overlords valued strength and prosperity, but above all else they revered the Sun - a different form of the Arbiter that is little spoken about or known across the Empire in current times. Their palaces were built to ascend as close to the Sun as possible, and allow in as much of its light to the halls that they lived in.   They too revered the water, both in its mirroring of the sky and Sun above, but also from its bounty; the Sultans were fierce pirates who sailed huge ships piloted by hordes of elven slaves. Pools and other water features can be found frequently in the domains of Old Nissia, with some ancient shrines and places of worship being only accessible via the sea.   Treasure hunters have sought out the hidden riches of the Sultans for centuries since their fall at the hands of rebellion, though the ancient warlords were exceptionally adept at hiding their wealth from prying eyes.
