Fort Belegor

  This ancient fortification guards the waters leading from Helias to Carrag Nuine - the most prominent river system in Daënfel on which trade flows to the heart of the Empire.   One of the oldest structures in Daënfel, this ancient fort was said to be built by the elves, and for hundreds of years has been inhabited by Olwyn Cariad and her militant group of puritan elves, who resent the Empire and directly oppose Avlar's ascension.   Surrounding the fort are luxurious Nissian estates, owned by the rich and powerful of Helias. These nobles enjoy the protection of the elves, accruing much wealth through the bartering of rich silks and fresh fruit, which the elves value highly.   The Battle of Belegor is one of the bloodier tales told around the Empire, with a whole fleet of Orodáni ships sunk as they attempted to enter the river during the First Federation War. It is said that the elven sorcerers rained divine fire on the ships as they attempted to penetrate the mainland. Since this event, Fort Belegor has been completely avoided by Federation troops in subsequent invasions.   Additionally, despite the generally anti-Empire sentiments of the fort's defenders, the site has strangely become a key locale for the basic training of the Empire's military. In the last few decades, a community of support services has formed around Fort Belegor to supply and entertain the constant hordes of youths who are stationed at this gateway to the Empire.
