Ängelæc

Written by Oliv3eeer

Ängelæcs are an angel resembling species created by Archeons. They are one of the oldest species still existing, dating from 20 Pre-Cyvas. They majorly believe in the Stywl Pantheon, which contains Archeons.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Vertebrae humanoid species with bigger eyes and more defined features, softer lips, and smoother skin with an inhuman glow. They have a halo that can appear or not, the design is relatively similar but changes on the individual. They usually have one or two pairs of feathery wings, some have extra eyes or limbs. Their eyes have no pupils, and their height is in average 6’5, reaching up to 6’9. They have retractable sharp canines.

Genetics and Reproduction

They reproduce with human methods, requiring male and female parts. For unknown reasons, the probability of female offspring is lower than their male counterpart. Gestation period is of between 10-12 months, without magic aid. With enhancement, it can take only 3-5 months. Births are more often by cessrienne than natural birth, and the child is born without wings, and with an intact eyesight, resembling a human. Females don’t have periods, their bodies taking care of the non fecunded ovules, and eliminating them through their waste.

Growth Rate & Stages

After 1 to 2 years, wings have fully grown, and eyesight is rapidly declining. At 3, they reach their permanent eyesight. Their halo takes its unique shape at 4. They reach their maximum height around 14 for males and 12 for females. Their body reaches puberty at 10-11 for males, and 12-14 for females. At puberty, male waists thin, shoulders broaden, genitalia grows, nipples and muscles define. Female hips thicken, breasts firm, lips plump and collarbone, arms and legs refine. Wings also go from a pale blue to white, and as they pass 60-70, they tint pink.

Ecology and Habitats

They live best in cold winters, and warm summers. Drastic temperature changes can be deadly, in our modern world they would prefer western countries such as France, and certain regions of the United States. They live in harmony, and peace with nature, sharing this culture trait with Elves, and in the real world, natives.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They can only eat ambrosia, and drink nectar. (In all forms) The freezing point to nectar is extremely low, and impossible to achieve without magic. Therefore, frozen nectar is a sign of great wealth or power. Similarly, the thawing point for ambrosia is very high.

Biological Cycle

Their wings thicken in the fall to prepare for winter, and they become more pale for camouflage. In spring, they shed the extra feathers, and slowly turn back to their (still pale) skin. During the periods between seasons, they are easily irritable.

Behaviour

They are mostly graceful, and non violent. However, when confronted to Dæmeons, they are naturally inclined to hostility, as Dæmeons are their natural predators, but some have more mild reactions.

Additional Information

Social Structure

High Ängelæcs such as the royal family are chosen by Archeons Himself. Their eyes take a golden colour, and their wings the same undertones. Banished Ängelæcs have a broken halo, grey eyes, and often tattered, and grey wings.

The society functions in a monarchy of divine justice, and has multiple branches such as lords, ladies, counts, and barons.

Domestication

They have been domesticated by humans for decades, making the descendants more obedient, and easier to control. During the Grand Cyvarian War, Archeons, and other forces freed them from the grasp of humans, and removed their access to magic. The species as a whole hasn’t completely recovered from the effects of the temporary domestication.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Their ichor (blood) was used in many potions, along with their winter feathers. The humans who domesticated them would exploit these resources, often extracting just enough ichor so the individual would still be alive, but increasingly ill.

Facial characteristics

Most have sharp features, lean faces, and small noses, with bigger eyes devoid of pupils.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They are mostly grouped in the fortress kingdom of Lyuvlyen, although some rogues, and the banished individuals live outside the walls. They are known to choose high points, next to forests, and water sources, in stable climates. They avoid human civilizations, sometimes seeking solace amongst Elves or Faes.

Average Intelligence

Smart creatures, they have an acute understanding of the world around them. Their intelligence resembles the one of a high functioning autistic human.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their sight is slightly impaired, partially blinded because of the lack of pupils. They use their wings, halo, and tongue to gather most information about their environment, and their sight can be enhanced by a third spiritual “eye” in the center of their halo. They are extremely sensitive to temperature changes.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

One of the parasites known to target Ängelæcs specifically is the Bug Eyed Joni. It nestles in their feathers, releasing chemicals that undo the bonds holding them together, causing feathers to fall in clumps. If not treated, partial or full amputation of the wings can be necessary.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Female first names tend to start with smooth letters such as S, C or E, whereas male names tend to start with harsher letters like K, A or T. Names often have multiple syllables, with a majority being vowels such as O, E or A. Common last names often end in “ell”, and tend to designate the profession, a characteristic or the location of the family. Examples include Thornell, Fearrest or Darell.

Major Organizations

The High church of Stywl, which manages all religious services. The High Court, which oversees judicial affairs. The Royal College of Lyuvlyen is in charge of education, and the Dorelor Court is the royal family/palace.

Beauty Ideals

For females, a well defined neck, hips, and legs are considered the epitome of beauty, along with long pale hair. Male standards privilege a tall frame, small waist, pale skin, and defined facial features.

Gender Ideals

Since female births are rarer, they are expected to be married as young as 16 to men sometimes twice their age, although this is less common in wealthy families, since the “selling off” of a woman brings a pay from the man’s family. Men are expected to be leaders, strong, and willing to sacrifice themselves. Women are expected to have children, and provide their husbands with care.

Courtship Ideals

Men are expected to court the women that interest them, and the women have a pick between candidates selected by their fathers. It often begins when women are considered ready to have children, around 18 to 20 for most, but as young as 16. An unmarried woman over 27 is considered waste, so is a woman over 30 without children.

Relationship Ideals

The ideal relationship between two individuals is a heterosexual marriage with the goal of having 3-7 children. The marriages tend to be arranged by the fathers, or the future bride chooses her husband. Often, the two meet on the day of the wedding. Homosexual relationships are rare, but gay couples are less taboo than lesbians, due to the shortage of women.

Average Technological Level

They do not have technology such as wifi or cell phones, but magic compensates for this. One key discovery is the ability to stock magic, and energy inside Lumenite, and Limestone, which permits lighting, telegrams, automated machines and communication with Nyni.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Ängelæcs speak Lyuvlyen, their own language. High Ängelæcs often have notions in Enochian, language of the Gods, and most of the population speaks Cyss, the common language across the world.

Common Etiquette Rules

It is considered rude to touch a woman’s neck without permission, and same goes for men’s arms, or hair in general. Yelling is extremely rude, and considered agressive, along with cursing, and snapping fingers is a sign of disrespect. Wearing no shoes inside a home is considered blasphemous, as it is a sign of trust in the Gods that inhabit the room, and is only permitted in Chapels.

Common Dress Code

and indecent for females to show thighs. Their hips are considered sacred, which is why in Chapels, they are expected to uncover them. Collarbones are often on display, privileging V neck tops, and short hanging necklaces. Men shouldn’t wear tight clothing, especially pants. A man’s waist is also sacred, obveying the same rules as women’s hips. Any jewelry indicating dedication to a God is expected to be visible, and in perfect condition

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The Ängelæcs honour the ones who came before them, and once a year hold a reverse Dia de los Muertos, called Basgm c a Olpirt, or Day of the Light that celebrates the living, and what comes next in their lives.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Gifting money to a woman’s family when marrying is the norm, along with green for weddings, and red for funerals. Gifting jewelry that doesn’t correspond to the receiver’s God(ess) is extremely disrespectful. Fasting on Yule’s Eve, and feasting the next day is tradition. When 10, most males commit to a God of their choosing, and females do it at 13. It is the equivalent of Bar\bat Mitzvah, and is celebrated greatly.

Common Taboos

Sexual pleasure is a huge taboo in the society, as they believe lust is a sin, and contrary to Archeons. Some kinds of magic, such as runes, and shadow spells are considered “Dark arts”, and associated to Zillmium.

History

Were created in 20 Pre-Cyvas by Archeons from a single feather. They quickly spread, and had their golden age from 15 Pre-Cyvas to 4 Post-Cyvas, with the downfall of their last God on Earth. Then started a period of domestication, from 7 POC to 54 POC. Finally, in 55 POC, Archeons took action, and freed the species. Then started a long period of recovery, that was considered complete in 70 POC. From 60 POC to 75 POC, a lot of males were killed to give blood to pregnant mothers, so they would not die during childbirth, preserving their lives. This led to a decrease in the population of adult males, and the procedures were quickly abolished.

Historical Figures

The king Tyliak 1st (reign 5 PC-10 POC) resisted humans, and refused to become a "pet" but was eventually murdered.

Inventor, and scientist Kobhan Elfore (34 POC-102 POC) discovered the magic stocking properties of Lumenite.

Common Myths and Legends

The legend of the Olden Quaa speaks of a material that when made into armour, could give one the wisdom of Mille. When made into weapons, give the force of Allucam. When made into vases, the power of creation of Archeons, and when burned, the rage of Zillmium.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

They despise humans for the Grand Domestication. They share their love, and respect for nature with Elves, and have always been natural allies with them. They share certain traits with Faes, and usually stay allies. They usually front against "brutal" species such as trolls or orcs, because they are heavily associated with Ängelæc's natural counterpart, Dæmeons.
