RealSkinn
A lifelike, self-healing, resilient synthetic skin which is most often used as a covering for cybernetic replacements or to disguise cybernetic implants on the surface of the body. It can also be used on its own, as a partial skin graft or full-body replacement, generally for medical use or for small cosmetic changes. (Although voluntary full-body skin replacements are not unheard of, they are expensive, dangerous, and require a long recovery time, so they are rare.)
RealSkinn comes in any color or color pattern, and good-quality installations are custom-matched to the skin tone of the recipient. The highest quality installations are custom-painted by a specialized artist for the most realistic look. It is entirely hairless, though false or real human hair can be implanted in it if desired. In addition, it can be tattooed in the same fashion as natural skin, though a specialized ink formulation must be used.
Besides looking and feeling the most realistic to an outside observer, RealSkinn also provides the most realistic sensory feedback to the user. For this reason, it is mandatory that any cyberlimbs permitted to remain installed on a recovering cyberpsycho be covered in RealSkinn.
RealSkinn is self-repairing to a degree. Cuts that are about one centimeter wide or less will "heal" at a rate of about 2mm per day, and surface damage generally repairs even faster than that. Of course, RealSkinn does not bruise or bleed, and it is more resistant to scrapes and tearing than natural skin, but it does not provide significant protection from bodily harm on its own. RealSkinn which has been enhanced with armored materials is referred to as Skinweave.
