Well, hello there. Welcome to Curses by Darklight!
I didn’t expect to see you, but that’s all right. Step in, and pull up a chair… and don’t forget to lock the door behind you.
So, what is all this? Well, this is the setting for Curses by Darklight. A series of stories set in, around, or about the town of Gloamstead along the Alabama-Florida state line. Right deep in the Southeastern United States. My hope is to create a setting for you that feels alive, with a rich blend of Southern Gothic mystery, cozy intrigue, mixed well in a stew pot seasoned with a touch of horror. Not too much, since I only want to make it savory.
After all, I’m hoping the spice gives it that little kick.
Here in Curses by Darklight, you’ll find plenty of stories about cursed antiques, cryptic folklore, and a healthy dose of murder. Through it all, there’s the stubborn tenacity of humanity in the face of the unexplained… or at least things not talked about in polite company. Gloamstead is thick with secrets, and I’m looking forward to sharing them all with you.

You see, the world here balances between the cozy and chilling. Modern day, but framed in a sleepy Southern United States town where the cypress and magnolia trees cast long shadows. Where the air is laced with that faint hint of salt, smoke, and a bit of decay. A place where stories drip with the summer heat and the chill of whispered curses.
So, with that, feel free to wander around from the town square to the old Briarwood Manor. Even right out to the Leatherdown Bayou and wiregrass wetlands around it.
Just remember, at night, don’t forget to put out your lantern in case the Darklight comes through… and don’t forget to lock your door.
