New Jerusalem Today

Higher incomes mean better professions and higher wages; small ranch style homes are beginning to spring up in the suburbs that are rapidly replacing the farms and woodlands surrounding downtown New Jerusalem.   Problems do begin to arise between Town and University. By the mid-1950s, the cost of campus police protection is being debated. The University's young president, Dr. Wainscott, even dared to enter the controversy by running for mayor.   New Jerusalem struggles to prosper after World War Two, but the University leads the progress of the city as it grows in the post war period. The 'Fabulous Fifties' have taken a bit to hit the area, but slowly the city is once again starting to grow towards meeting the future.   By the mid-1950’s New Jerusalem’s future is beginning to look bright and hopeful even if it is still haunted by older problems.
