Cullaran
Welcome to Cullaran
Cullaran is the main continent of the world where four countries, each associated with an natural element. Water, Earth, Air, and Fire. Each country is ruled with slight variations. One a kingdom, another an empire of principalities, one a constitutional monarchy, and the last an oligarchy. In addition to these kingdoms there is a piece of the continent that is largely unknown. Gwyn was once the ancestral home of the dragons, as well as many peoples such as the elves, orcs, and goblins. However, after the Sundering of the Stone, these races splintered into more hospitable areas of the world, both in the north and south. During the current age, all the countries are at peace. Although there is some bad blood for past wrongs in certain areas, the peace is kept well.
The magic in the world is based on elemental manipulation - Water, Earth, Air and Fire. Each country has a ruling element. During The Great Settling, a ridged cast system was developed and those born with elemental magic were considered blessed, and were held in high regard. However, as systems of government and tribal ties were formed, those born with these powers became increasingly zenophobic towards one another. Fire manipulators came from the fire kingdom, water manipulators from the wave empire etc. Anyone born as other were shunned and cast away. Slowly, those who were shunned from their homelands found one another. Slowly traveling from town to town, trading, tinkering, and collecting strays where ever they went. They became the place for lost souls.
As the lines between the human peoples of the world were drawn more and more thick, the elves were also traveling down from the wastes of Gwyn, searching for a place to call their own. Many found comfort in the large Fearann Forest and made beautiful cities there. Being a largely distrustful of other people, the elves kept to themselves, and it was not long before they rarely left their forest home. Now, to meet an elf is nearly unheard of, and anyone who crosses the border of their forest will often not be heard from again.
