Crystal Mirae Knight

Crystal Mirae Knight (or Rogers) (a.k.a. Crys)

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Crystal never knew her father. Her mother raised her from ages 0-2. Shortly after her second birthday, her mother experienced ventricular fibrillation, which resulted in sudden cardiac death. Crystal was then put into the foster care system.

Her childhood was pretty uneventful, save for the trauma. She lived with a foster family until she was 14, when she was adopted by a couple with a daughter about a year younger than Crystal. Her adopted father, Philip Rogers, was in the military, which meant the family had to move every couple of years. Crystal had to adjust to this quickly.

Crystal had a hard time making and keeping friends because of how often she moved. She wasn't particularly shy, but she didn't enjoy talking to new people. She got used to not getting close to people, so when she moved once again her senior year, she wasn't necessarily interested in making friends. She was given a tour of her new school by a girl named Evangeline, who insisted on Crystal having lunch with her friends. Crystal reluctantly agreed and found that the group was actually quite nice.

Sexuality

Crystal grew up thinking she was just too smart to be interested in boys. (Of course, she later realized that that mentality was a result of internalized misogyny and that not having crushes doesn't make you any "better")

She learned about the LGBT+ community when she was around 10: she was telling her classmate about her lack of interest in boys, and her classmate responded with a "what, are you a lesbian then?" She obviously had no idea what that meant, so her classmate explained in a 10 year old sort of way, and Crystal vehemently denied it - she didn't want to be this "weird thing". However, as school progressed, she couldn't stop thinking about it. Did she actually like girls? She couldn't help but do some research (research mostly consisting of those "am I gay" quizzes we all took as kids) and as she looked, she started to come to the conclusion that being LGBT+ wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing - she wasn't religious so she didn't feel she had much to worry about.

Eventually, in high school, she came out as a lesbian. She never talked to her adopted family about it, but one of her friends got her a lesbian pride flag and she just hung it above her bed without saying anything. Her parents never mentioned it.

Education

From ages 5 to 11, Crystal attended a public elementary school. The majority of students in the school she attended were from low income families, Which was normal for Crystal as a child in the American foster care system. She was an average student who had to work, but never fell behind.

Her middle school experience was much the same. The school she attended was in the same general area as her elementary school. The middle school was much bigger and Crystal was never able to be in the same classes as her friends, so she slowly drifted away from them.

She was halfway through 8th grade when she was adopted. From then on she never stayed in the same school for long as her adopted father was in the military. She continued to be an average student and never got too attached to anyone or anywhere.

Toward the beginning of her senior year, her father retired and her parents decided to move to a tiny town in Michigan so they could be closer to extended family. Now she's doing her best to get used to going to the only school in Firmament.
