Duel-Dracena

• About 25% of the Dracena population participate in cross-court relationships
  • Creates a mix of traditions that are drawn together from the two courts
  • Duel-citizenship until the Dracena mate/settle down at which point you swear fealty to the lord of the area you settle in
  • Families commonly choose to live toward the edges of the territories, though not always
  • Very accepted by the common Dracena, looked down on by some of the courtiers who’d be considered purists
  • Can result in new powers or stronger powers in children (about 30% of the time, the rest they take after one parent or the other for power)
  • Children will take on physical traits of both parents, including how their dragon form looks
  • Children of these unions are seen as sacred by followers of the Great Mother, as it was only the Dragon Lords fighting together that let their species continue thriving
  • Dracena children of these unions are targeted more by humans because they are considered exotic (brighter colors, mix of traits, ect)
  • The children are offered every opportunity their parents had in their original court and aren’t expected to make a choice of where to live until well after they reach majority and are ready to settle down
  • If you can trace your linage to a court, you can settle there if granted permission from the regional lord. This is more a formality, because it’s rare that the lords won’t allow movement through the court if a Dracena contributes and isn’t a criminal
  • The most common reasons for cross-court relationships is trade/diplomacy/military travel
  • There is always a spike in cross-court relationships after a major conflict with the humans. This is encouraged since there is normally large loss in life and leads to the idea that most Dracena can track their family across court lines if they go back far enough
  • Dracena that are born from couples orginiating between two different courts
  • This is not the same as Dracena who simply have parents with different powers
  • Courts predominetly made up of one type of Dracena, but not 100%
