French Onion Beef Stew

Servings 12    

STEAK

  Ingredients
  • 4# Stew Meat
  • SteakSeasoning to Taste
  • 3 tablespoons Butter

  •   Steps
  • Cut the roast into chunks
  • Begin by seasoning the beef stew meat with a steak seasoning of your liking.
  • Then melt butter in a cast iron skillet and brown the stew meat.
  • Cook the meat until all sides are browned.
  • Let the edges sear or brown to help enhance the flavors.
  • When the meat is browned, dump it into the crock pot.
  • Then begin making the caramelized onions for the soup.

    ONIONS

      Ingredients
  • 8x Yellow Onions
  • 2 teaspoons of minced garlic
  • 3 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dried Thyme
  • Paprika

  •   Steps
  • Slice the onions
  • Add them to the same skillet you browned the stew meat in.
  • Add more butter to the skillet.
  • Begin letting the onions sauté and brown.
  • When the edges begin to brown, add brown sugar to the onions and stir to coat the onions.
  • Sprinkle the onions with, minced garlic, dried thyme and paprika.
  • Let sauté for another minute before adding water to help deglaze the cast-iron skillet.
  • Then transfer to the crock pot with the stew meat.

    CROCKPOT

      Ingredients
  • 16oz Fresh Mushrooms Sliced or
  • 2x 8oz Canned Mushrooms Sliced or
  • 3x Beef Broth (32oz)
  • 2x Bay Leaf
  • 2x French Onion Soup Mix
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  •   Steps
  • Cover the onions in beef broth and stir to combine the onions and beef stew.
  • Add French Onion Soup Mix
  • Cover the crock pot and cook for 6-8 hours on low.
  • If it cooks longer, it will be fine.
  • The meat may start to shredded, but the flavors will just continue to develop.

    Full Ingrediants

    After

  • 8 slices of French bread
  • 20 Slices of Provolone Cheese
  • 20 Slices of Swiss Cheese
  • 6 tablespoons fresh parmesan cheese
