Vaas Kiln
Purpose / Function
As Lizardmen are naturally from tropical regions, they need conditions similar to their homeland to smoothly shed their annual shedding. Young Lizardmen especially require this as it is not uncommon for multiple shedding in a single year.
Entries
There is usually only 1 entry/exit usually in the form of a thick hide cover (but some clans use a wooden door) often covered in sacred runes and charms
Sensory & Appearance
A pungent musk wafts from inside as the hot humid air assaults the senses. The darkness was tangible as my host closed the hide door flap behind us, the only light a low glow from the centralized heat pit. Low tubs of warm perfumed water formed a horseshoe around the peat moss covered pile in the center. In and around the tubs scaled bodies strewn about seemingly without reason, writhed and churned. If not for my extensive self reassurances I would've died from fear of entering a pit viper brooding pit.My host guided me to an earthen bench and began to show me the steps to begin the molt. Perfumes and oils have been observed in use for the soaking tubs.
Special Properties
Directly above the heating stones there is a manually controlled vent often operated from outside by adolescent lizardmen. Inside there is a pull cord connected to a rudimentary bell or other noise maker for signaling the vent watch(es).
Architecture
Normally circular in shape with a low arched roof. Supports are made of whatever wood is available in the area and the walls are either made of overlapping layers of cured hides or from earthen works as seen in more arid regions.
History
This structure is present in every documented Lizardman village outside of the tropics, but are common among larger villages in tropical regions.
