Ringstone Thicket

"Something is different about these woods..."

Quote ~ Many a Crawler

The Ringstone Thicket is a strand of Ancient forest that is on the north edge of the Ravenwall Peaks and south of the Winsell Mires. Fey spirits are said to live in these woods as well as tribes of Goblin and Bugbear, along with animal wildlife. The Thicket gets its name from two ancient stone circles within its boundaries.

Geography

Ancient Forest with subtle slopes and depressions between soaring dark jagged stone mountains and dark wet marshlands. The region is dark with only patches of sunlight peaking through the forest canopy.

Ecosystem

This Ancient Forest is home to harboring Fey creatures and, beings that form an eerie and magical yet symbiotic relationship.

Ecosystem Cycles

The 4 Seasons within the ringstone thicket are more like 3 seasons: Spring and Summer are almost Identical due to the thick canopy overhead that lets in little sunlight. Only mild temperature differences and animal behaviors are a tip-off for those who are knowledgeable about the region. Fall brings on brilliant colors in foliage as leaves begin to fall, and more light creeps into the forest floor. One will see more animal activity as many of them prepare for the coming winter. Winters are cold but not bleak as the Ancient trees break up the winds rolling down from the mountains. The ground tends to be more slushy or frozen as the forest thins near the marshlands, North of it.

Localized Phenomena

Travellers to the Ringstone Thicket have often gone missing or returned after missing for a considerable time. There are several Bluestone Ring formations believed to be marking spiritual or magical laylines and marking points of ancient significance.

Those less experienced in traveling the thicket easily get lost and often claim Fey Spirits set traps or deceptions to taunt or discourage intruders.
