Konora

History

During the Era of Storms, elves were rare on the material plane. They hated the oppression under Thonik Sekrahd and refused to provide yet another society for him to conquer. Most resided in the Feywild or the far reaches of the wilderness in order to escape his influence. When he was defeated, the elves decided that in case another like Sekrahd arose it was necessary for them to establish a foothold in the material plane to combat them from. The city of Kenora was founded near a portal to the Feywild, where they could find allies or a means of escape.

Politics

Seeing as Thornik Sekrahd ruled barely outside of living memory, the elves of Kenora are naturally suspicious of other mortals, as it is their belief that the mortals' failure to combat him lead to the rise of Sekrahd in the first place. As such, Kenora is a military-like complex surrounded by a bustling city. To live in Kenora is seen as a great service, since all who reside there live knowing it is their duty to prevent another Era of Storms.   Kenora is a city state ruled in strict military fashion by Gatewatcher Amara Siltresti and her generals. By living in the city each elf conscripts themselves to its army. They are free to leave at any time, though if it is to cower away from their duty they are discouraged from remaining in the city. They can be called upon in times of war by the Gatewatcher to fight and defend as she sees fit.   Not all elves live in Kenora, however, it has an incredibly homogeneous population. 95% of Kenora's people are of elvish descent.

Military Ranking

Gatewatcher: The supreme commander of all of Konora. Current Gatewatcher is Amara Siltresti. The Gatewatcher is always a full elf.   High Strategos: Categorized just below the Gatewatcher, the four High Strategos answer directly to her. Each command 5 legions of 250 soldiers. Decides where each legion is stationed and determines their movements during wartime. Almost always of full elven descent, with only one or two notable exceptions.   Marshals: A Marshal is the leader of a legion. Appointed by the High Strategos, a Marshal's loyalty lies with the Strategos who put them in office. Responsible for the day to day maintenance and training of their legion. Though uncommon for half-elves to rise to this rank, it is possible for them to do so.   Archwarriors: The lowest ranking officer of the Konoran military. There are 5 Archwarriors in a legion, and each commands a squadron of 50 marshals. They answer directly to the Sentinal of their legion and often act as their counsel when in the field.   Sentinals: The footsoldiers of Konora's military. Though they're still rare, it's most common to find half-elves in this rank. 250 Sentinals make up a legion, 50 make a squadron.
