Cronia
History
Cronia evolved from the ancient Clans of Cronvellia. The clans ruled northern Apora after the elves fled the material plane. Though each was separate from the other, they could all agree that they were stronger allied than not. Over a thousand years ago, when the evil wizard Thonik Sekrahd ruled all the land, his influence was the greatest over what is now known as Cronia. The Lord of Wind and Rain, Thornik cast a darkness upon the land, only breaking it for those who earned his favor. In this way, he controlled the seven clans who called this land their own long before his birth. His quest for power was unending, and though he seemed content for the first few years of his reign, Thornik wanted more. He sought a way to increase his magic so that the Lord of Wind and Rain could become the lord of reality itself. As his grip on the land tightened and his mind was further lost to madness, the people of Cronia feared for their very lives. However, the clan leaders still clung to their power and refused to move against Thonik should they lose and have their power taken away. They were too afraid of the Lord of Wind and Rain. The clan leaders inaction was the cause of great suffering. Thonik took what he pleased when he pleased with no regard for the people he ruled. They cried out in agony until one hero could not stand to sit by and listen anymore. Nimah Vaden was the youngest daughter of the Wolf Clan Chief. A warrior equally strong in might and intellect, Nimah was willing to take the risks her father and the other clan leaders would not. Though she could muster only a small force to join her in rebellion, it was a coalition of people from all seven clans. Never before had the clans been united, and by doing so Nimah lead a successful campaign against her people's oppressor. She slew him with her own blade, proving that no amount of magic could lend a mortal the powers of a god. However, the clans' problems were not behind them. The chiefs were ashamed by their failure and the people's faith in them was badly shaken. Nimah was their savior, and so the people believed she should rule. United they were strong, and under one central ruler they could maintain their strength for centuries to come. Nimah wished not for glory, only freedom for her people. But it was too late for her to go back to being the anonymous fourth daughter of the Wolf Clan Chief. Where her warrior's might prevailed in her campaign, it was time for Nimah to employ her serpent's cunning. She struck an accord with the chiefs and her people. She and her line would assume the throne as the Uniter Queen of her people. However, in order to ensure the Uniter Queen's power did not remain unchecked and to appease the clan chiefs, Nimah called for an assembly. One representative from each clan would hold a place as her counselor to ensure their clan's interests were recognized by the Uniter Queen. And so the kingdom of Cronia was formed.Politics
Due to their oppression under magic, Cronians are generally suspicious of the arcane. Though arcanists will no longer be burned at the stake, they will find themselves under greater scrutiny from both the law and everyday people. Magical items are extremely rare and highly regulated. People whose powers are divine in orgin are generally fine, although in the old days even they were heavily scrutinized. Furthermore, even though a thousand years have passed since the clans were separate, old grudges and alliances are still upheld and respected by many. The Uniter Queen
For the most part, the Uniter Queens have been direct descendants of Nimah the Savior. However, on a couple occasions, the Assembly has voted the next heir unfit for rule and put a queen of a different line on the throne. When a new Vaden is fit to rule, it is generally assumed that she resumes her birthright once it is time for a new queen. The Uniter Queen is responsible for upholding the laws of the land with the aid of her appointed generals. In times of warfare, she is the de facto representative of Cronia. Any decisions she makes in relation to war are not subject to approval from the Assembly, although she cannot declare war without 5/7ths approval. Once peace is declared she may be held accountable for her actions and decisions, however, until that time she is not. The Uniter Queen may also challenge laws created by the Assembly, and in order to change them, she must have 5/7ths approval. To prevent ties, any vote of the Assembly where the queen is involved the Uniter Queen's vote is worth two votes. The Assembly
Because each of the seven clans have their own interests, the Assembly was created in order to represent them in the new government. Each representative is chosen by their clan and serves until they are no longer fit to do so. In order to be removed preceding to such circumstances, the rest of the Assembly and the Uniter Queen must unanimously remove them from their duties. The Assembly is responsible for creating Cronia's laws. Along with the Uniter Queen they judge and sentence those who break them. The Clans
Each Clan has their share of hunters, warriors, and craftsmen. However, they all have their own specialties. These strengths combine to make Cronia a force to be reckoned with. The Wolf Clan
