The Broken Saucer

Even when people cannot afford food they can eat. If they have no shelter they can shelter here. If they can help, we welcome their help.
— Carl the cripple

Culture

Those who volunteer to work in the Broken Saucer, do so because they see a need in the community. They cook and serve food for the less fortunate at no cost. All food that is cooked in the Broken Saucer is donated to them.

They believe everyone has the right to eat. Some members will deliver food to those who cannot come to themselves to the Broken Saucer due to disabilities. They also will provide fresh food to the jails and prisons when they can or when they are requested to do so.

Public Agenda

The Broken Saucer is a soup kitchen that offers free food. This is because they know everyone deserves to eat. Those who get food can be productive members of society. Even the disabled have something to offer to society, whether it is experience, wisdom, or knowledge.

Assets

The Broken Saucer is a large building with a kitchen in the back and trestle tables in the main room. There is a large fireplace between the kitchen and main room which provides heat for the entire building.

History

The winter of nine twenty-seven OTO, saw many homes collapse under the weight of the snow that had fallen. Not only was there a record snow fall, the temperature dropped to an extreme low which saw those without shelter freeze to death. With the discovery of the first frozen body a group of citizens joined together to buy a building for a soup kitchen which could feed and offer shelter to those in need.

The original building was not large enough to provide for everyone who needed the help. Because of this they bought a plot of land and built a new building for the Broken Saucer. When it was completed they welcomed the town to come check it out and explain their purpose. It wasn't widely accepted since a large number felt that those who needed the help were too lazy. Those who ran the soup kitchen didn't agree and held to their beliefs about everyone being deserving of the same basic rights as the wealthy.

Ten years after the new building opened to the public someone burned it down, killing those who were working in the kitchen. After the fire, the family members of those who perished rallied the town to rebuild. As most citizens came together because they have either needed the service or had a family member who did. The new building was larger and better built than the last one. Not only was it better built, the local hedge wizard enchanted it to maintain a comfortable temperature, as well as prevent decay and damage.

Before the hedge wizard passed away he tied the enchantment to those who work in the Broken Saucer and the people who used its services. Thus as long as the society is still active so is the enchantment protecting the building.
