Sergei's Farmhouse

In 1070 OTO Arthur was granted a twenty-five acre homesteader claim in Herigmark. He chose to make his claim in the Boulder Cliff Mountains. He spent the first few years clearing the land of the plateau in preparation for his farm and home.

The main portion of the farmstead was built on a ten acre plateau with the other fifteen acres surrounding it, including a small river which cut through his land thus allowing for easy irrigation of fields.

Purpose / Function

This farmhouse was built by Arthur to house his family on whose land the farm was established. It has held three generations of farmers and druids since its construction. It also became the home of those who became apprentice druids under Arthur, Corwyn, and Sergei.

Alterations

Originally the farmhouse started as a two room building with a loft. The main room for cooking and general use and a bedroom. The loft was used for the children's sleeping area. A root cellar behind the house was accessible through a door covering the staircase into it. Over the years the family expanded the home to include two more bedrooms, a full attic, a kitchen, dining room, a pantry, and a secret library. These alterations did not happen at the same time.

The first alteration was the addition of a bedroom when Arthur's first child, Erica began puberty, thus separating the boys from the girls. When the second bedroom was added it was for Arthur's apprentice Corwyn.

When the kitchen and pantry were added with the dining area attached the loft was converted into a full attic. The ladder to the loft was changed to a staircase. For a while the attic was still the main bedroom for the children. It also became the main play area and school room.

The library was added in secret. The construction began in the cellar. The initial caverns were dug through the stone, using dragon claws and magic. The layout was designed to incorporate magical energies and symbology to ensure structural and atmospheric integrity.

Architecture

The trees were cut and seasoned for two years before the construction began on frame of the house. The ground was prepared during the time the logs were being seasoned.

The first step of preparing the ground is to clear the vegetation from the area for the construction, plus about two feet extra for drainage purposes. Once the land is clear the next step is to ensure it is level, and covered with stones to create a sturdy base for the logs.
