Fae Chargers

I have heard many things about the Fae Chargers. This unit has been known to be one of the most effective in military history. Their ability to adapt to the ever changing field of battle is legendary.

Composition

Manpower

These units are comprised of five pegasi, five unicorns, five nightmares, five Kelpies, and twenty Fae of various ethnicities as riders. In addition to the main unit there are roughly ten members who work in a support aspect. These support troops are routinely pulled from the ethnicities of drus, sprites, dwarves, and nymphs.

Equipment

The typical equipment found within a unit of fae chargers is:
Fighting
40 saddles
10 maces
40 sets of barding
10 swords
10 crossbows
15 sets of light armour
10 horseman's flails
10 horse bows
15 sets of medium armour
Support
Mobile Forge
This includes the firebox, bellows, an assortment of tools, an anvil, and a quenching barrel. These items are used to repair and craft armour and weapons as well as additional items for the encampment that may have been lost.
Supply Wagons
They have three wagons for carrying the supplies, which are exchanged out when new supplies arrive.
Mobile Kitchen
Within the mobile kitchen you will find full sets of pots and pans, cooking utensils, cutlery, and place settings for everyone in the unit. Along with the aforementioned items, there is enough food to provide for the unit for one week, with supplies coming in on a weekly basis.
Mobile Medical Tent
The medical tent includes an operating table, a collection of bone saws, scalpels, needles, linen bandages, and sutures.
Camp Supplies
The supplies for the encampment include tents for everyone in the unit, folding cots, bedrolls, and blankets.

Tactics

The Fae Chargers have the ability to control land, sea, and air. Pegasi and nightmare have the ability to fly, unicorns are land units, and the kelpies are the sea or water units. Although the four mount types can work on the land, they can disperse into differing fields of attack. Sprites, are utilized as scouts and messengers allowing the unit to coordinate attacks from different vectors.

Whenever the unit is flanked they split forces with the pegasi and nightmares taking to the sky and forcing a path for the unicorns and kelpies to egress onto more favourable ground. Nightmares can control fire to fight the enemy, while kelpies control water. When working in concert in the waterways they deal devastating attacks on enemy ships; fire from above and whirlpools underneath. This doesn't include the attacks of their riders upon the enemy. Unicorns are considered the medics of the unit, however, their horns could inflict damage as well as heal it. There are times when the horseman's flail were secured to the unicorns heads and horns allowing their power to be infused into the weaponry.

With their combined abilities these units were feared during the Unending War. Flying units that could combat dragons, land and water units that could dominate their human enemies, The Fae Chargers and their support combined to decimate everyone that came against them.

Logistics

Recruitment

The units are recruited when the kelpies, nightmares, pegasi, and unicorns are mere foals. They grow up and learn to work together as a coherent unit. This prevents the animosity that is normally found between the differing ethnicities. Once they reach a maturity level where they can effectively bear a rider they are paired with their counterpart.

The foals are grouped in co-ed groupings, ten male and ten female. This is in hopes they would choose to mate with each other during times of peace in order to build more units. Foals from these pairings make better recruits since they and their parents are allowed contact. The parents would explain the reasons for their recruitment and the benefits of working in concert. These are anecdotal and from personal experiences.

The riders are chosen from those who show the best equestrian abilities, and mounted combat skills. Not all fae enjoy combat, and because of this, the ones chosen for this unit are rarely taken from the ethnicities which do enjoy it. Skill is more important than capability. Having the skill to do something also includes knowing when to use it. If the riders are taken from ethnicities that prefer combat, such as the redcaps, they are likely to continue fighting when retreat is the better tactic. Life of combat is a choice, and not something to be taken lightly.

The fae chargers were instrumental during ███████████████████████████████████. During ███████████████████████████████████ they confronted ██████████████████████████ while defending ███████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████.

Unfortunately, it seems their military records are still classified and have yet to be released to the public.

Fae chargers, though a small unit comparatively, wiped out my fellows. They used their bows and crossbows against us. We couldn't affect half of them due to their use of nighmares and kelpies. It is hard to fight something that can outmaneuver and stomp on you while flying.
