Courier

The year was 32 OTO. Stamen was asked to pass along a message for Gwen of the forest elves to Caswallawn of the urban elves.  When he crawled back into the cabin Gwen was frantic with worry. Stamen could no longer fly as his wings were gone. The weather outside the cabin was cold and windy, snow lay drifted along side the walls. Though he had been able to return to the warmth of the cabin he soon perished. The loss of his wings due to the cold left blood vessels open and as he warmed up he died. Before he returned to the cabin, however, he had delivered his final message. This message was to his fellow sprites, 'snow kills'. From that day forward no sprite will dare the cold of winter and the snow.
— Sprite courier to eager young sprites wishing to become couriers. Taken from the oral history of couriers as a warning.
Sprites acting as couriers have a twofold job. The first is to pass along messages to keep the people informed of things they need to know. The second is to gather information from across the lands of Corrigenda. There is nothing that moves faster than bad news or gossiping sprites.

Career

Qualifications

The only qualification for this career for the sprites, is the willingness to live somewhat separate from other sprites.  This takes a certain amount of mental fortitude.

Career Progression

The longer you do the job, the more respected you become within the sprite community.

Payment & Reimbursement

For sprites who take on the position of courier the biggest rewards they receive are guaranteed shelter and companionship not to mention the treats they receive from the person they are serving.

Other Benefits

Security from many different dangers throughout the world of Corrigenda.

Perception

Purpose

Sprite couriers are important for the passing of vital information among others, be they human or fae.  The sprite network is used to the exclusion of regular couriers for the speed at which they can pass along the information.

Social Status

Within the fae, sprite couriers are considered to be a vital portion of society.

Operations

Dangers & Hazards

The greatest hazard involved is the weather.  Sprites have a difficult time flying when it is raining.  They refuse to head out in the snow due to the simple fact that their wings freeze.  The first sprite to try to pass a message along in the snow learned this the hard way when their wings froze and snapped off.

Ouch! Poor Stamen. I'm not surprised that the sprites no longer go out when it snows. Sounds like a really useful profession. I like that it means the sprites who are couriers are respected. :)
