What this means to us
Everyone Deserves To Eat
This is essentially the idea that whether you can afford food or not, it should be provided. This is due to the fact that those who have food are better citizens. It cuts down on theft. Those who have been helped by eating at the Broken Saucer are more likely to help others when they are capable of doing so.
Shelter Those Who Have None
We offer shelter to those who need it because of emergency or having fallen on hard times. When you shelter you fellow man, you build relationships. Not only do they have shelter but they will protect that shelter as if it were their own. Some will offer to make repairs that may be needed, help with cutting firewood for the kitchen, or even doing dishes after a meal. These people are part of our community as well a part of the community that needs help.
Offer Aid Whenever and Wherever You Can
Even those who do not need to use the soup kitchen or shelter options will need help in other ways. Look for a way to pass along the benefits to everyone in the community. If you have work to get done, offer the job to someone who needs work to cover expenses. Some people are too proud to accept help without earning it. Even if they have a place or food now, they may be struggling to maintain homes or family due to being out of work or are recovering from an injury.
Building Community and Friendships
Every action has consequences. When you reach out your hand to offer help regularly, others are more willing to offer when you need a helping hand. Having a shoulder for someone to cry on, or an ear to listen, shows you care. When you care, you lead by example. This brings more people into your circle.
