The Blue Blade

The Blue Blade is a legendary figure in Tyrluk’s history, remembered as a dashing brigand who robbed the rich and gave to the poor—or so the tales claim. Active during the early 14th century DR, the Blue Blade’s exploits have become the stuff of folklore, with each generation adding new embellishments. Whether a selfless hero or a clever thief depends on the storyteller, but one detail remains constant: the figure’s signature weapon—a sapphire-hued rapier that gleamed like starlight.
Though there have been no confirmed sightings of the Blue Blade for over a century, the legend persists in songs, stories, and the whispered hopes of the downtrodden.

The Man Behind the Legend

Little is known about the true identity of the Blue Blade, though many believe he was a skilled duelist and master of disguise. Some tales suggest he was a disenfranchised noble, forced to turn to banditry after losing his lands in a dispute with the Crown. Others claim he was an orphan raised by the people of Tyrluk, driven to protect them from corrupt tax collectors and greedy merchants.
The most popular version of the legend paints him as a charming rogue who outwitted Purple Dragons and War Wizards alike, stealing gold and jewels to fund daring rescues and woo noblewomen.

Famous Tales of the Blue Blade

The Duel at Sharragh Bridge: In one of the most famous stories, the Blue Blade challenged a corrupt noble and his retinue to a duel atop a narrow bridge. Armed only with his enchanted rapier, he defeated each guard in turn, sending them plunging into the river below. The noble fled, leaving his riches behind, which the Blue Blade distributed to the peasants of Tyrluk.
The Ballad of the Hidden Hoard: According to legend, the Blue Blade amassed a vast fortune from his escapades and hid it in a secret cave near Tyrluk. It is said the treasure can only be found by one worthy of carrying on the Blue Blade’s legacy.
The Masked Revelry: Tales tell of the Blue Blade infiltrating a noble’s masquerade ball to steal a priceless artifact. Disguised as one of the guests, he danced with the host’s daughter before vanishing into the night, leaving behind only his calling card—a blue ribbon tied to the artifact’s case.

Legacy

The Blue Blade’s legend has inspired countless songs, plays, and tales across Cormyr. For the people of Tyrluk, the figure represents resistance against oppression and the hope that justice will prevail. However, the nobility and Crown view the legend less fondly, seeing it as a dangerous symbol of rebellion.
Some believe the Blue Blade never truly existed, but others insist that the rapier still lies hidden, waiting for the next wielder to rise and reclaim the mantle.

Imposter

Recently; a bandit captain seems to have taken on the moniker of the Blue Blade, and evidenced by them wielding an enchanted blue rapier. As of late 1488DR, merchants on the high road have been struck repeatedly on their way to High Horn and the Eagle Peak pass. Claiming their assailant claimed to be the Blue Blade Reborn.
Lord Duskfall has offered a 500gp reward for the capture or proveable death of this bandit.

In Literature

The Blue Blade is the subject of many songs, the most famous being "A flash of the blue blade"

In Tyrluk town, 'neath a silver moon, The Blade of Blue set a daring tune. With a rapier bright, like a sapphire flame, He danced through the night and earned his name!   Chorus: Clap your hands and stomp your boots, Drink to the legend, loud as flutes! The Blade of Blue, so bold, so true, His tale will live in me and you!   At Sharragh Bridge, on a stormy night, The Blade of Blue made the guards take flight. One by one, they fell in the stream, While he tipped his hat with a jaunty gleam!   Chorus: Clap your hands and stomp your boots, Drink to the legend, loud as flutes! The Blade of Blue, so bold, so true, His tale will live in me and you!   At the noble ball, with his mask held high, He stole a kiss 'neath the candle's eye. Left a blue ribbon and a mocking bow, The nobles all curse his name even now!   Chorus: Clap your hands and stomp your boots, Drink to the legend, loud as flutes! The Blade of Blue, so bold, so true, His tale will live in me and you!   His treasure they say lies hidden still, Past the ancient oak, near the misty hill. But traps and tricks guard the loot so rare, For only the brave may venture there!   Chorus: Clap your hands and stomp your boots, Drink to the legend, loud as flutes! The Blade of Blue, so bold, so true, His tale will live in me and you!   So here’s to the Blade of Blue, my friends, His spirit lives on where the road extends. Raise your tankards, sing his fame, And keep alive the Blue Blade’s name!   Final Chorus: Clap your hands and stomp your boots, Drink to the legend, loud as flutes! The Blade of Blue, so bold, so true, His tale will live in me and you! His tale will live in me and you!
