Harpers

The Harpers, also known as "Those Who Harp," are a semi-secret organisation dedicated to preserving historical lore, maintaining the balance between nature and civilisation, and defending the innocent from the forces of evil across the Realms.

Activities in Cormyr

In Cormyr, the Harpers maintain a reduced presence compared to other regions. Their influence is concentrated in the **port cities** and the strategic trade hub of **Arabel**. Despite the kingdom's tightly controlled governance and vigilant War Wizards, the Harpers have carved out a subtle role in the Forest Kingdom.
  • Intelligence Gathering: Monitoring trade routes, port activities, and political machinations to prevent the rise of corrupt or malevolent forces.
  • Supporting Local Agents: Collaborating with sympathetic individuals within Cormyr's nobility or governance to uphold justice and balance.
  • Preserving Lore: Protecting historical records, magical artifacts, and oral histories that reflect Cormyr's heritage.

Presence in Key Locations

The Harpers’ activities are most visible in the following areas:
  • **Suzail:** The capital city’s bustling trade routes and political intrigue provide opportunities for Harper agents to gather intelligence discreetly.
  • **Marsember:** This port city's web of canals and hidden corners allows the Harpers to operate in secret, focusing on maritime activities and the flow of contraband.
  • **Arabel:** As a vital trade hub connecting northern and southern Cormyr, Arabel is a critical location for Harper agents to monitor the movement of goods, people, and information.

    Notable Agents in Cormyr

Several Harper agents have left their mark on Cormyr’s history:
    • Wangle Towerstruck: A human ranger who operated in Thunderstone, gathering intelligence and protecting the region from external threats.
    • Glarasteer Rhauligan: A merchant and covert operative for Alusair Obarskyr, active during the mid-to-late 14th century DR. His dual role as a merchant and spy exemplified Harper resourcefulness.

    • Liriel Nightstar: An ex-adventurer and merchant and covert operative for moving illegal goods through Cormyr.

    • Dhag Greybeard: A Herald of the Harpers, and mysteriously old for a human. Currently a town crier, but living at Woodbrand Keep.

    Challenges in Cormyr

The Harpers face unique challenges in Cormyr, given the nation’s structured society and the influence of the War Wizards:
  • The **War Wizards’ vigilance** makes covert operations risky, requiring Harper agents to act with utmost caution.
  • The **centralised power of the Obarskyr dynasty** leaves little room for external influence, making Harper activities subtle and indirect.
  • **Cormyr’s strong military presence** ensures stability, reducing the necessity for direct Harper intervention.

  •

    Outlook

Though their presence in Cormyr is limited, the Harpers continue to uphold their ideals of balance, justice, and the protection of knowledge. Their agents work tirelessly to safeguard Cormyr from external threats and internal corruption, ever watchful in the shadow of the kingdom’s order.
