Ellywick Tumblestrum

"If you had just one wish, what would it be? Gold or angel song? Finding a lost love, or finding your way back home? Let me sing a song about one wish that came true..."

Overview

Ellywick Tumblestrum is a gnome bard of remarkable talent and a renowned wanderer of the multiverse. Known for her mischievous wit, unshakable optimism, and a knack for finding or causing trouble, Ellywick has strummed her lute in the court of the Archfey, aboard spelljammers drifting through Wildspace, and within the echoing halls of Mechanus.
She is celebrated across worlds as an adventurer, storyteller, and performer whose songs can lift hearts, calm monsters, or stir revolutions. Her name is spoken with warmth by heroes and suspicion by scholars, who note her uncanny tendency to appear wherever powerful relics or fateful crossroads arise.

Appearance

Ellywick is a lightfoot gnome with curly chestnut hair and bright green eyes that gleam with mischief. She dresses in a riot of colours, her patchwork coat covered in enchanted pins and trinkets collected from a hundred worlds. Her favourite instrument is a slender lute carved from moonwood, its surface inlaid with softly glowing runes that shimmer as she plays.

Personality

Cheerful, curious, and unpredictable, Ellywick embodies the true spirit of a bard. She believes every story deserves a song, and every song deserves an audience, even if that audience includes dragons or demons. She is deliberately vague about her past, sometimes offering conflicting recollections of the same event. This has led some to suspect she has travelled through time or across planes so often that her memories have become entangled.

History and Adventures

The earliest records of Ellywick Tumblestrum place her in the latter years of the 14th century DR, performing along the Sword Coast. Others claim she was seen at the same time playing before the Lady of Pain in Sigil, the City of Doors, and at the appearance of the infinite staircase at Castle Kilgrave in Cormyr.
Over time, she became known not only as a bard but also as a planar trader of curiosities. Ellywick is said to have exchanged a Modron heart for a Feywild harp, a Netherese tuning fork for an astral compass, and once convinced a pit fiend that a broken string was the key to perfect harmony.
The accounts from the 13th century record her presence at Castle Kilgrave, where she is said to have traded a device known as a Chronolometer to the lich Melkerech. The exchange was witnessed during one of the castle’s grand masquerades, where Ellywick captivated the crowd with her dance. Her performance became the subject of legend after she was challenged by an unknown halfling bard. The contest ended with the halfling quietly slipping from the floor in defeat as Ellywick’s steps grew faster and brighter, the rhythm pulsing like a heartbeat through the hall.

Powers and Abilities

Master Bard: Ellywick’s music can inspire courage, dispel fear, or disrupt enchantments.
Planar Savant: She can traverse planes by tuning her songs to the frequency of the Weave.
Artificer’s Touch: Her melodies resonate with dormant magic, awakening or repairing enchanted items.
Silver-Tongued Trader: Her words are both art and weapon, turning rivals into partners and bargains into legends.

Reputation and Legacy

Ellywick is regarded as both a muse and a menace. The Harpers hold her in high esteem as a courier of hope, while the Zhentarim curse her name as a meddler who upsets their plans. Fey nobles whisper about her songs, claiming they carry truths that even the Archfey cannot ignore.
Tavern tales across Faerûn tell of her performances and the chaos that follows in her wake. Some portray her as a hero who spreads light across the planes, while others describe her as a whimsical trickster who plays for her own amusement. Perhaps both are true.

Behind the Lute

Ellywick remains one of the few mortals to deal directly with planar powers without losing her freedom. Her multiversal travels continue, and wherever she appears, rumours soon follow of a new melody, a mysterious bargain, or an impossible tale.
