Northron Naming Conventions

Northrons typically start life with a name chosen by their parents with their surname being being derived from the male and female lines surnames.  The middle name will be the first name of the male parent if males, or the female parent if female.  When marriage occurs, the wife will drop the surname of their male parent and add the husband's male line surname name.  In same sex marriages the surnaming process is more complicated.  Typically the couple will make a decision about whose surname will carry more weight, among the nobility this simply means whoever has the superior position in the hierarchy will keep their name unaltered while the lower ranking partner will take the appropriate half of their surname.    Some individuals abandoned much of the process and simply use a single last name instead of both parents surnames.  This is especially popular if want parent is considered embarrassing, the individual is born out or wedlock or for simple convenience.
