Gobor-Tal, The Goblinmaster

Minor God of Redemption, Opportunity, Recovery, and Execution

Long ago, when the goblins of old fled their home - in search of a light beyond fear and gloam;   Betrayal filled their hearts, for nothing they had or ever knew could venture along side them, as they roamed.   No food, No blade, No bed, nor chair - nor even family, nor friend, for fear of even deeper despair;   And yet, round camps' 'yonder light that shone most bright, Nine Gods did they bring, to illuminate the night.   Nine Gods of Goblins Old, Proud and Mighty, as was foretold - Heroes one and all, to deliver their children from the darkest sprawl;   Nine Tales, Nine Gods, Nine motes of light - Nine guardians to lead the way into darkest night, that death might miss their silent flight.   Months to years and time beyond, yet even still the road wore on - with starving bellies and encroaching fright, did the Nine vow to guide their children through the night;   The First to fall, Proud Glitterbeard, did soon fall upon his axe and spear.   The second and third, Hither and Yon, did give their lives that their children may live on;   The fourth to die, dark Feldergrad, soon indeed went quite mad.   The fifth and sixth, the mighty twins, gave their lives for fell revenge;   While seventh and eighth, Husband and Wife, did in the Ninth a flame alight.   The Ninth, the Survivor, the Child of Night - did at last lead his children into the light;   His body slow but mind yet faster, did the Ninth find clarity 'fore the Old Wrathmaster.   With goblins free and night forgotten, the Ninth did lead them, triumphant, through fields of cotton;   To distant lands and sunlit shores, where their masters would command them no more.

Artifacts

For much of his history, Gobor-Tal has existed as a god without any artifacts to call his own - his faith simply too small-scale and his personal power too small to truly bring into fruition any artifacts made by his followers or even any artifacts rumored to have once been wielded or used by he himself. Instead, for much of his history, Gobor-Tal's emphasis on reclamation, redemption, and recovery meant that his followers and those who worked and lived in his name often helped recover the artifacts of other deities or even simply powerful relics or items that once belonged to ancient, forgotten, and powerful people and civilizations - many of whom, both gods and mortals, would often bestow gifts unto the faithful of Gobor-Tal as appreciation for their aid - perhaps most famously being gifted a mighty artifact known as True Love's Kiss by Lilac, The Idolatress for his faithful's aid in recovering one of her most sacred treasures.   In recent years, however, with the rediscovery and reclamation of the legendary Shadowcap Castle, said to have been the first and original temple to Gobor-Tal thousands of years ago, rumors have begun to circulate that in the as-of-yet unsecured depths of the castle, the mightiest relics of Gobor-Tal's faith may yet lay in wait to be rediscovered...

Tenets of Faith

Be brave, little knight. Never be the first to flee or the last to fight - stand up for others and inspire the fearful to act.

Choose to be better. Be aware of your faults, look at yourself critically, and always work to rise above them and better yourself.

A hand to those who ask. Forgiveness is a reward, but Redemption is a right - never refuse an earnest plea from any who seek its' light.

What was, can be again. Seek out that which is lost or forgotten and see it restored so the mistakes of the past can help guide the future.

For the Right Reasons. Fight for the opportunities and rights of those who lack them. Never fight a battle or take a burden for selfish reasons.

Order and Discipline. Obey those above you and lead those under you with empathy and efficiency. Abide the rule of law and live free of excess - the beast inside kneels only to discipline and bows only before austerity.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

To see the Goblin race redeemed and forgiven.   To give a second chance to any creature or race that needs it.   Reclaim lost knowledge, techniques, items, and all things lost long ago.
As far as Minor Gods go, Gobor-Tal is quite the fascinating example - there is perhaps no clearer evidence of a God whose faith has 'drifted' over thousands years than he. Though earlier depictions and depictions by his goblinoid followers often depict him as a hideous, armored Goblin and place more spiritual emphasis on this appearance to complement his ideals of redemption and heroism, more contemporary depictions paint him as more traditionally handsome and beautiful - while also incorporating elements of their own faiths(Namely, those of Ruthger, Lilac, and a few others) into his dogma while using this beauty to emphasize his dogma of recovering and restoring old things to a new beauty.   The way these two cultures view him couldn't possibly be more different - yet his message endures. A god being depicted differently is no new thing, of course - but the ease with which Gobor-Tal's faith molds him contrasts so drastically with the long-lasting nature of his own dogma makes him a rather curious example. He's incredibly resilient for a Minor God - perhaps the least influenced by his followers I have perhaps ever seen. Indeed, they seem almost more influenced by him.   Yet, even still, his faith has endured. Perhaps there is some merit to the claim he fought The Sergeant of Sorrows and won his respect, after all...it would certainly explain why his modern-day dogma has incorporated elements of The Sergeant of Sorrows's own faith into itself, and why there are such oddly clear parallels to the tenets of that faith in Gobor-Tal's own tenets.

Main Temple and Location
Though Gobor-Tal's former Main Temple was destroyed in the catastrophe that destroyed the city of Nirvana a century ago, his faith has recently reclaimed the once-lost Shadowcap Castle as their new Main Temple. This temple, located high in the Great Obsidian Range along the northern edge of the Striaban Plains, has become the center of the faith's operations across the entire continent.
