Eoghan Hollowfire

Long ago, Comhlaidir knew a man called Eoghan Hollowfire, a sorcerer whose ambition exceeded his caution. Once a respected mage of the Silver Circle, he delved too deep into the forbidden magics of the northern moors, seeking dominion over life and death itself. His brilliance was feared; his malice was whispered in the corridors of every keep.

Eoghan’s descent began with subtle acts: a servant vanished, crops withered, a child’s laughter turned to silent terror. The Circle warned him, but he ignored them. It was said he discovered a ritual to tether shadows to his will, bending the living into obedience. But the spell was imperfect.

One storm-dark night, the ritual failed spectacularly. The winds of Comhlaidir reversed, lightning danced without cloud, and the earth itself cracked beneath Eoghan’s tower. Villagers claim he was consumed by the very shadows he sought to control. His tower collapsed into the moor, leaving only smoldering ruins and a lingering stench of iron and ash.

Yet the story does not end there. Travelers near the ruins report strange phenomena: whispers in the wind, shadows that move against the sun, and a cold pressure that bends thought and memory. Sometimes, a voice echoes through the fog, calling by name those who wander too close. Local elders say Eoghan Hollowfire’s ambition survived in the ruins, a malicious consciousness trapped between life and death.

Some claim the sorcerer’s spirit seeks successors, drawn to those who crave forbidden knowledge. Others insist he is a warning: that in Comhlaidir, magic is never neutral, and the most brilliant mind can become the darkest shadow.

Even today, wandering the moors near Hollowfire’s tower is considered perilous. Few who enter the ruins return unchanged — if they return at all.
