The Loom of Eryndor

The Loom of Eryndor is one of the most revered and enigmatic creations in Altanaeum, a colossal device that weaves the history of the sky realms into intricate Chronoweaves, vast webs that preserve knowledge, art, and culture in both visual and auditory forms. Located high in the Whispering Spires, the Loom is not merely a machine but a living fusion of magical engineering, spider artistry, and divine inspiration.

Origins

The Loom was crafted centuries ago by the legendary silk farmer and engineer Eryndor Veylin, who sought to preserve Altanaeum's history in a way that transcended written language. Inspired by the awakened spiders’ natural ability to weave complex patterns and their connection to the Silk Tongue, Eryndor partnered with a colony of Titan Spiders and imbued their collective artistry with the magical energies of the Nýfada. Legend holds that the Loom’s central mechanism was activated using a fragment of Tomos’s snowflake, granting it the ability to capture the essence of the winds and weave them into its creations.

Structure and Design

The Loom of Eryndor is housed within a spiralling tower of skyglass and cloudwood, designed to channel the winds of Altanaeum directly into the device. The Loom itself is an enormous circular frame, resembling a spider’s web, with countless threads of Kerauno Silk stretching across its span. The threads are connected to enchanted spindles, which hum with energy as they weave patterns into the air. Each completed Chronoweave is suspended in the tower’s upper chamber, where it catches the light and fills the space with soft, resonant music as the wind passes through it.

The Central Orb: At the heart of the Loom is a glowing orb of Kerauno, which powers the entire mechanism. It is said to pulse in harmony with the winds, guiding the threads as they weave.

Titan Spider Network: A colony of awakened spiders maintains the Loom, adjusting threads and ensuring its continued function. These spiders are considered sacred caretakers, their artistry integral to the process.

Importance

Historical Archives: The Loom has recorded pivotal moments in Altanean history, such as the signing of the Charter of the First Descent and the triumphs and tragedies of the Pearl Conflict. Chronoweaves from these events are considered sacred relics, consulted by scholars and leaders seeking guidance.

Cultural Preservation: Myths, songs, and philosophies are immortalized in Chronoweaves, ensuring that even the oldest traditions are not forgotten. Many Altaneans visit the Loom to learn from these threads, often accompanied by a Threadweaver who interprets their meaning.

Spiritual Connection: Some believe the Loom is guided by the Nýfada, weaving not just the past but the destiny of Altanaeum. Pilgrims often gather in the tower to meditate on the wind’s song, seeking clarity or inspiration.
