Military: War
What began as accusations of corruption and mismanagement, hardly rarities within the Empire, soon spiralled out of control. A call by the Lady of the Lake saw many knights make the dangerous journey to Brécheliant, and of those that travelled, few returned. Amongst those that died was the son of Guy de La Croix, and though at first it was seen as a tragedy, it was later revealed to the Knight of the Cross that the Royal Family of Pendra had orchestrated his murder to stifle any attempts at the throne. What followed then was a brutal war of attrition and terror, highlighted by the Redwyne Massacre in which Royalist forces were ambushed and killed to a man during an attempt to invade La Croix. De Treva and Averaine would eventually side with La Croix, as Gallard and Egallian sided with the crown. Many houses remained neutral as the conflict continued, the rebels skillful leadership and technology matched by the greater numbers of the crown. Eventually, The Brazen Empire would intercede, setting up a neutral ground to find a diplomatic end to the conflict. A betrayal would lead to a vast battle however, a single shot fired from an unknown location starting the violence once again. The Brazen Empire would side with De Treva and La Croix as the royal family unleashed a tide of dark magic and nercomantic fodder that would turn the conflict into a charnel house. In the end, the king would be captured and his only son slain by Vaskian, The White Flame. Imprisoned and sentenced in Varsica, the House of Pendra would end and The Brazen Empire would split Penchant into five nations to prevent further conflict, and to end the war for the throne.
