The Two Duchies

Political event

15/47/04 - 16/47/04

Penchant and Caroux both join the Empire, fearing an alliance made by the other with the Brazen Empire.

Penchant and the secessionist region of Caroux had long been at war with each other. The Brazen Empire had taken to a policy of non-interference, unwilling to recognise the legitimacy of the break-away state yet sympathetic to Caroux's cause from its own history of rebellion.   With the installment of the Regent Court, efforts were made to expand the Empire's trading partners, both in an attempt to calm the damage done to the economy through Vahalian's reckless wars, and to repair their diplomatic reputation abroad. Such inroads were welcome in the east, but both nations grew concerned over the growing ties between their foe and the Empire.   In an unprecedented move, both began to seek application to the Empire, hoping to join before their opponent secured an alliance. The Regent Court, confused at first, accepted both offers with bemused grace as both sides sought to make the changes required to join the federation. it was said that whole delegations of diplomats from both countries met, but a room apart, entirely unaware of the situation unfolding within their opposing nation.   In the end, during an event best recreated in Schreib's famous work, "Those Virtues of Ignorance", both nations signed acceptance of the Imperialis Dictat and joined in totality The Brazen Empire. It is said that upon their discovery of what had occured, the fury and rage could be heard all the way in Penchant, who marshalled their armies in fear of invasion.
