The Barrows

Left over from pre-Calamity days, The Barrows are the gravesites of ancient Brangornians. They remain in Clair as a reminder of where the city's earth originally came from.

Legends

The legends of The Barrows are older than the city itself, encompassing ancient superstitions and embracing new ones. Tales of ghostly sightings, otherworldly travel, and magic weave a tapestry of history into the extensive structures that house thousands of remains.

Dares

Local children, and even some adults, often dare each other to wander The Barrows at night. Usually this ends with the friend who took the dare being scared by the friends who made the dare; on occasion, however, these expeditions have ended poorly for all involved. Sightings, hauntings, maiming, and even death have added to the local legends of The Barrow's otherworldly nature.
The Clair Historical Preservation Society has begun to take measures to keep people out of The Barrows, to little success.

The Revenant of Angelfel

A very popular tale from the history of The Barrows, The Revenant of Angelfel details the adventures of a woman named Wynd'e.
It is said that Wynd'e was an pirate who sailed the great seas of Brangorn in search of glory and treasure. When she heard about The Barrows and the riches contained in them she made haste to the region, Angelfel, where they were housed. Upon entering The Barrows, she activated a curse that ensured she would never truly leave but never enter them again. Scoffing at this improbable news, Wynd'e plundered every barrow she could manage and still carry the loot thereafter. She then made to leave the site, stepping over the line between the gathering stones.
Immediately, there came a rumble from within The Barrows, and out came their owners in numbers too many to count. Fleeing the scene, Wynd'e took her loot and bolted for her ship but was overtaken by the vengeful dead. When they finished with her and returned to their homes, all that was left was her lifeless body and a pile of treasure.
Angered by this turn of events, Wynd'e returned to her body out of sheer willpower. She was, after all, a feared pirate of the seas of Brangorn. Picking herself up, she adorned herself in gold, and picked up the rest to leave but found she could not make it to her ship. No matter how long she walked, or how fast she ran, the ship remained just as far away as it was when she died. Crying out in frustration, she returned to The Barrows, bent on revenge for her lot, only to find that she could not cross the line between the gathering stones. The curse fulfilled, Wynd'e despaired and began to hunt the region around The Barrows themselves for any stray dead that she could find. Legend has it that those who dare enter the area are doomed to meet her. She cannot kill them, but it does not stop some from dying of fright, or even activating a curse of their own.
This fantastical tale is often told, with great embellishment, in dormitories of scared students-particularly those that are located closest to The Barrows proper. Many students have taken the dare to enter The Barrows on the off chance they will see her, and come back full of terrifying tales of their own.
