Seven Useful Spells

The Ilalin spell is one of the most mysterious and powerful spells in the world of magic. No one knows exactly how it works, but they do know that when a butakah master evokes it, projectiles simply refuse to reach their mark. Ironically, the spell was brought to human use by someone who was not a butakah master at all. Bayissa had passed over the opportunity to become a monk and live on an island in Ethiopia, choosing instead to pursue a life with a wife and children. But before he left the island and all its secrets behind, he projected his astral body to the Casual World, where he faced an angel guard at Lake Eidos. The angel was not there to protect the mystical waters, but the Ilalin spell. Bayissa won the privilege to see the spell in the form of a Lemurian glyph, but he could not draw it. So he outsmarted the angel by projecting his mental self to the mental realm, where he burned the image of the glyph onto his body in the physical world. When a traveler uses the Ilalin spell, no projectile can reach its target. It’s a powerful tool that can be used to defend against even the most formidable foes. The Pancake Spell is another fascinating spell that has captured the imagination of magic users for generations. Originally known by a different name, it became known as the Pancake Spell because after it was cast, sages would throw white flour in the room to make it stick to the invisible djinni. This spell became a useful weapon for uncovering djinn who did not want to be seen while spying on humans. In the astral world, where there is no physical flour, other items are used to stick and reveal the hidden spy. Items such as sand, the ions in the atmosphere, and human energy under the Pancake Spell will attach to the djinni’s aura, making the djinni appear as a ghost or ectoplasm. It’s a powerful tool that can help magic users uncover even the most elusive and cunning djinni spies.   Another powerful and dangerous spells in the world of magic is the hallucination spell. With a single incantation, Shaitans and shift changing Shi’lats can make their victims see things that aren’t there, causing car wrecks and driving people to the brink of insanity. But the spell isn’t just limited to the physical world - it works just as well in the astral world, where it can affect humans and djinn alike. Depending on the strength of the caster, even angels can fall victim to the hallucination spell. In fact, the master traveler once used the spell on an angel of the Ophranim order to help his djinni friend, Irmana, escape the angel’s wrath. Hallucination spells work best on weak-minded humans and weaker djinn races that are descendants of the Inuna parent race. But they have no effect on the highly intellectual amasutum race of djinn. The Dim Spell of Invisibility is also a powerful spell that has captured the imagination of magic users for generations. It works well on ifrits and hinns, but the caster is often misled by the potency of the spell. They forget that only the victim will not see the caster. For the spell to work on two or more people, the caster must create a group spell. It takes a master of the spell to cast it on a group, and even then, the caster will not be invisible to newcomers. As such, the invisibility spell tends to be less used by masters who understand the difficulty in casting spells on a group. Additionally, the caster must remember the possibility of a pancake spell, which can reveal those using an invisibility spell.   The petrified spell is a valuable weapon, both powerful and mysterious, in the world of magic. Butakah masters will confirm that there is no spell better than this one, which freezes djinn victims in place, rendering them powerless and immobile. Originally a curse used by angels of the Erelim order guarding the gateways between the Causal world and mental realms, this spell was designed to freeze quick and elusive djinn trying to escape into the mental realm. It was first used by the butakah grandmaster Yoshi when he prevented a clan of ghouls from entering the Hall of Relics.   The lumination spell is another powerful spell that has captured the imagination of magic users for generations. It’s a great spell to use in the dark places of the astral world, where travelers often find themselves in caves and underground tunnels with no light. If the traveler carries a staff, the lumination spell will make the tip glow like a flashlight. And if the traveler is a master of the skill, the light is blinding to the victims, making it an effective tool for disorienting foes and gaining the upper hand.   But perhaps the most powerful spell of them all is the plasma lightning spell. When used with the supercharged Mytox elixir, the spell caster can send streams of plasma electricity from their fingertips, unleashing a torrent of raw energy that can decimate even the strongest foes. The Mytox Elixir is made by combining the undergrowth roots from the Emerald Forest with crushed deadly beans grown in the deadly Jah-Ku Din’s marshes near the river of souls. Together, these ingredients increase the electric charge of the astral body, making it only too willing to exit the body when the caster enacts the spell. But beware - for human victims, the charge may be fatal.
