Portals

The commoners of the city know of six portals, but there may be more hidden throughout the city. Four of these portals allow for teleportation within the city walls, but two other portals are different. Whereas Tangi’s Coffee Shop portal teleports to the Road of Despond, the Night Shade portal is more dangerous.   After designing the 4th street portal which teleports from the city’s north side to the shipping docks in the southwest, the Atlanteans created the Night Shade portal. The 4th street portal is disguised as a bakery shop, few souls know its secret.   The Night Shade portal is not for the faint of heart. Travelers must be extra careful when using it, as it teleports them to the perimeter of the Atlanteans’ stronghold. Many a careless soul has stumbled into the crimson-bricked Night Shade jewelry store, which has two doors. The door to the left leads inside the store to the merchant, Hobs Kinler. But the door to the right leads to the Atlantean stronghold, where teleporting could be fatal. Souls are often taken into servitude there, and in the physical world, they appear to be mentally ill. One must take extreme caution when visiting the Night Shade jeweler.   The Rishni Road portal is at the top floor of the Upper Mercantile building. On the lower floors one may find the pits where stock traders are busy buying and selling stocks. However, the penthouse only looks like one. Instead it teleports the traveler to the city center where the sport arenas are and souls go in and out of casinos. The connecting building looks like a sports bookie place of business. It is a small building with old and worn doors.   Just north of the east side market place is the Market portal. The portal is in the basement of an abandoned building which looks as if it is a looted Chinese dojo which was once elaborate with 12th century Asian architecture. The building is home to ruffians, who have named it “Turf.” The ruffians assume anyone near the Turf is poor – don’t make them think otherwise.   The Fang’s portal is inside an entertainment castle. Yes – a magnificent castle from 10th Century France looks the part on the outside, but inside are movie houses, theatres, and other short portals that teleport dreamers into virtual experiences. The Fang’s portal will open at the base of the large pyramid at the southern gate. It is the best portal to use when one needs a quick exit. However, to enter the castle, one must cross the moat and pay a fee. Unfortunately, the fee is not fixed and may be astronomical. The traveler who carries sands of formation will have no problem forging as much currency as needed.
