A NOTE for potential new players in this campaign:
Welcome! Let me express some of my thoughts on how I see this campaign being run. For starters, my desire is for the PLAYERS to enjoy playing together and form some comradery if not friendship. I expect there will be times when the CHARACTERS are at odds, or otherwise may have conflict. This should never, NEVER bleed over between players. If you feel like this is happening, please discuss it with me. Conflict between PCs should be fairly short-lived and resolved within a session or two, so it might be helpful to have a meta discussion about it between players and the MC to plot that out.
This game will be heavy on investigation and roleplay, especially at the start of each case file (there are 10 in total).
- Most of "Act One" in each case is just trying to figure out as much as you can. Gather clues and see if you connect any of the dots. There may be physical conflict early on (I'm never ruling that out) but in general, you can expect to have a mystery to be solved, possibly with some difficulty doing it. You may not see the bigger picture until the very end after the case is solved.
- As you progress to ACT TWO there may be more action-oriented scenes as resistance increases because you are ruffling feathers and getting close to the "truth".
- ACT THREE is bound to have a Showdown of some sort. Case files are related, so each case that is solved may be referenced in future case files. So that's the campaign flow.
I also expect there to be character stories
and a crew story, too. There may be unexpected evolutions with the crew or your characters. I would caution players to not plan too far ahead on how your PC is going to evolve. As a player, spend some time digging to find ways you will fit into the crew. Work with other players. Collaborate. Let the campaign inform you as you play, and leave your preconceived ideas behind. Let the game surprise you. Don't force your character's story into the game. Let's all just play to find out what happens.
This is a character-driven story. I won't tell you what to do or where to go. Those things will be up to you. I might help review some of the facts you uncovered, or some loose ends you might have forgotten about, but in general, I will not be driving the action. For that reason, you should be willing the seize intitiative (or maybe better said to be proactive with your crew) and never be shy about asking the MC if there is something you are not remembering from a past session, etc. We have some good note takers playing, but it never hurts to put your foot forward a little.
'Nuff said. :)
