Frames

Metal remnants from the of the world of the Sleeping Ones

Structural Clearing, Day 4: I think we found one those things. Pa said he met a man who met one of those things once but he said it was bigger and had a body of forty ax heads bound together. We were just coming around the bend after cutting up a bunch of big lizards, easy work mostly. But no, this one was different than anything I've ever seen before. It looked like a woman, with woman parts, like the old paintings in the Abbocy of the Sleeping Ones, some of which were also women! Its eyes, if you could call those pieces of silver jewels in its head? that, looked over each of us for almost an hour it felt like, but it must've just been a few seconds and it was gone, poof, like a ghost. I think it put a spell on us and we hadn't even felt it till it was too late. We searched the rest of the building, which Aji thinks was built before the beginning of the world and there were no others. Strange.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Physical

The means of creation and most of the materials both used to create and within the standard Frame is of unknown nature and quality. Though dozens of artificers have claimed to understand the workings of a Frame's parts, none have been able to fully utilize or recreate the effects they appear to have on the Frame's themselves, leaving many skeptical. For this reason, most who delve into searching for them find that they are heavily strange in nature, borderline aberrational. What has been understood is that Frames appear to be similar to that of most Old Blood's in terms of skeletal nature, operating largely on a form of archaic energy that can run out in seconds if cut from its links. In addition to this, they move mostly via a form of pressure exerted by several parts moving in tandem to simulate an Old Blood's own anatomy. All Frames have a false brain of sorts, where a yellow gelatinous structure is typically found encased in extremely durable metals where the skull would be. This gelatin is surrounded by a thick, syrupy, golden liquid that appears to prolong the mental well being of a Frame. It is known that Frames who are heretical and or insane typically lack this syrup. Frames do not have a known heart, stomach or lungs as they require no food, water or air to breathe. It is suspected that while there doesn't appear to be a source of nourishment for them, they are powered largely by the aforementioned syrup as well, as Frames without any of it have been shown to 'die' without the ability to reawaken. However, given a minor amount, should a Frame choose to, it can enter a state of hibernation whereas more syrup inserted into its gelatinous case would rouse it. It is not known how long this hibernation can and or does last without any arousal. Interestingly, there have been several documented physical versions of Frames, some of them appearing extremely similar to their Sleeping One forefathers, others hardly resembling a set of scale mail armor on two steel legs. This suggests that Frames were created separately for their own unique purposes.

Psyche

Frames, while being machines, are much more similar to Old Bloods than their Product counterparts. Accordingly, of the 19 Frames officially discovered, most of them very much resembled the average person in demeanor and attitude. Curiously, none of them are ever able to remember their past, before being in their deep slumber, for reasons that are unknown. However, some of the emerging Frames have been known to not only be hysterical and confused upon awaking and being discovered, but openly hostile. Frames, upon emerging, usually already have fully formed mature personalities and mentalities and adapt to their post-awoken environment fairly quickly.

Significance

Frames are a special kind of artifact. Created by the Sleeping Ones, according to artificers they are remnants of a species long gone to time. They cannot be remade or created even by the best of today's artificers and attempts to do so have merely resulted in the Products as we know them today. Accordingly, wealthy large groups pay handsomely for Frames, such as various Equinox Courts, the Temple and several artificers.
Item type
Robotic
Rarity
There were only 138 ever produced. As of now, only 19 were ever recognized fully as Frames and as non-standard artifacts. Among them, 12 were put down for being dubbed insane and or heretical. The remaining 7 either disappeared in time or died, though, there are always rumors of Frames in specific locales or among populations but it would appear these are usually just misunderstandings or rumors gone wild. Typically finding a frame is in itself a gargantuan task, as most are either buried, underwater or dead in the basement of a monstrous Citadel.
Weight
Frames are usually between 215 and 430 lbs. depending on the individual model.
