Tiefling
Tieflings outside the Acapellago are rare. After several deals were being made in Dixieland, though, they are a more common sight in the island chain. Many tieflings end up orphans for one reason or another. Those who do grow up with at least one parent, often the human parent, may be a bit more accepted by their local town. Overall, tieflings learn a significant modicum of self-reliance early in life and are slow to trust others.
Basic Information
Biological Traits
Tieflings tend to be roughly the size of humans, but have a long prehensile tail and horns of various shapes and size which protrude out of their heads. A tiefling's eyes often mirror their skin tone, with paler tieflings sometimes having slate gray eyes.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Tiefling names fall into three broad categories. Tieflings born into another culture typically have names reflective of that culture. Some have names derived from the Infernal language, passed down through generations, that reflect their fiendish heritage. And some younger tieflings, striving to find a place in the world, adopt a name that signifies a virtue or other concept and then try to embody that concept. For some, the chosen name is a noble quest. For others, it's a grim destiny.
Male Infernal Names: Akmenos, Ammon, Barakas, Damakos, Ekemon, Iados, Kairon, Leucis, Melech, Mordai, Morthos, Pelaios, Skamos, Therai
Female Infernal Names: Akta, Anakis, Bryseis, Criella, Damaia, Ea, Kallista, Lerissa, Makaria, Nemeia, Orianna, Phelaia, Rieta

Culture and Cultural Heritage
Tieflings are still a relatively new race, having only started springing up since Kraken Squad went to Dixieland to stop some deals being made with various devils and demons. Kraken Squad was swallowed by a hell portal during that time. Shortly afterwards, the first tieflings were born to some of the deal-makers. This was roughly 50 years before the major military conflict between the Major Keys and the Acapellago.
Growing up mostly in Dixieland, tieflings have been the subject of bigotry and fear. This makes them standoffish and slow to trust. Most tieflings are just trying to have the quiet life they see their neighbors having. Often times that's easier said than done. Those tieflings who choose to emulate the warm hospitality they see around them don't receive it in kind, at least most of the time. As the tiefling population has grown, however, there is a growing acceptance of them.
History
The first tieflings born on Cisum were born to residents of Dixieland who made some of the first deals with the devils and demons. Infernal deals were being made at crossroads and through intercepted prayers. Some asked for help winning the love of another, others simply asked for decent harvests in the fall. Whatever the ask, no one would have guessed that it would bring about the tieflings.
Parents of the first tieflings often gave them up for adoption or abbandoned them at orphanages. Some mothers died during labor as a result of complications from the tiny infant horns. This earned ire from many Dixians and those parents who did keep their tiefling children were shunned as outcasts. Tieflings growing up with their families often lived out away from the towns and settlements of Dixieland. Some tiefling parents eventually formed a community of their own - Jackson, named for it's founding family.
Jackson became a haven for both families with tiefling offspring and lone tieflings alike. Word spread and many tieflings have been able to find peace in their life for the first time after moving to Jackson. At the time of the conflict between the Acapellago and the Major Keys, it was home to the largest population of tieflings in the Middle Sea.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Tieflings are the subject of supernatural fear. The evil of their heritage is plainly visible in their features, and as far as most people are concerned, a tiefling could very well be a devil straight from the Nine Hells. People might make warding signs as a tiefling approaches, cross the street to avoid passing near, or bar shop doors before a tiefling can enter.
The reality, though, is that a tiefling's bloodline doesn't affect his or her personality to any great degree. Years of dealing with mistrust does leave its mark on most tieflings, and they respond to it in different ways. Some choose to live up to the wicked stereotype, but other are virtuous. Most are simply very aware of how people resond to them. After dealing with this mistrust throughout youth, a tiefling often develops the ability to overcome prejudice through charm or intimidation.
