Originally known as Matteus Parus.
Killed his parents at the age of 5 in a sorcerous accident.
Adopted by Lionel Candentes , an eccentric nobleman dabbling in sorcery and everything mystique. Believed by some to have killed Lionel at the start of the Freedom Wars.
Matteus was extraordinarily influential in King Carial Parlent's court and remains the court sorcerer. Some believe his influence too significant.
Matteus seems to have found a way to stop his own ageing a few years before the revolution.

Motivation
Matteus is convinced he is meant for something greater; and at the same time has little faith in the abilities of others. To save the world from evil, he has to ascend to godhood. From his future seat in the heavens, he will single handedly stop evil and injustice from happening to the people of Eronus; however, if some evil is necessary to achieve such an incredible feat, then surely the goals justifies the means.
Matteus sees himself as above the machinations of court and of the council, but is still vey adept at navigating it to achieve his goals. He is motvated to maintain a high position in court only to advance his position beyond court; a tool to reach his goals, nothing more.
