The Dragonknights Declaration
This short and controversial document was published by the organisation known as The Dragonknights, who are a rebel group that seek the independance of the Vechor Islands from the Kingdom of Nhaggoria.
Purpose
To declare their objectives and their reasoning to the Nhaggorian king, and occur favour from outside forces who may be sympathetic to their cause.
Historical Details
Background
The Dragonknights were founded in the year 358 bc, in response to the invasion, and subsequent brutal occupation of the islands by the forces of the Kingdom of Nhaggoria. However, the old leader of the organisation had refrained from an outright call for arms against the Nhaggorians, feering repurcusions.
When Qasmus Het'ai took over the organisation's leadership, he and many in the organisation had grown tired of the old strategy, and sought a more direct approche. Qasmus, and a few of his most trusted advisors wote the document together, and sent it to King Arielo, formaly declaring their independance.
History
During the Second Age, the Vechor Islands had formed a small independant kingdom, which remained relatively isolated from continental matters. This changed with the arrival of The Carathengian Empire in the region, which after a few failed atempts, managed to integrate the archipelago into their realm.
After the fall of the Carathengian Empire, in the year 29 bc, the Vechor islands found themselves part of the newly independant Kingdom of Nhaggoria, which had previously been a Carathengian province. The Vechorians successfuly fought and gained their independance by the start of the third age, much to the anger of Nhaggor.
In spring of the year 352 bc, the kingdom of Nhaggoria invades the Vechor island with a massive army, equiped with hundreds of ships and Winged ships, that managed to overwealm the strong local resistance.
A brutal occupation would follow suit, acompagnied with forced displacement of the native inhabitants from their homes, in favor of Nhaggorian colonists from the mainland. This would enflame already high tensions and would result in the formation of the Dragonknights. The Dragonknight's declaration would follow soon after and kick-start the Vechorian rebellion, which is still ongoing.
Public Reaction
In the Vechor Islands
While most of the public on the island wholeheartedly agreed with the general sentiment expressed in the document, some raised concern that it was adressed directly to the king, arguing that it was unnessary provocation that could lead to further opression, while others said that the document itself would only served as an excuse for the Nhaggorian army to crack down on the locals even harder. Some went as far as to put the blame of any further attacks by the Nhaggorians on the Dragonknights, though this is a very fringe position. In the rest of Nhaggoria
According to witnesses, when king Arielo read the Dragonknight declaration, he'd nearly passed out from rage, then proceed to rant and wail for half a day to his aids, calling the Vechorians the most crude names and fantasizing about all kinds of cruelty he could inflict onto them. Thankfully, his advisors convinced him otherwise... for a time.Legacy
The document's legacy, much like the ongoing rebellion, hangs in the balance in the Vechor island. Outside of the archipelago, the document has inspired similar calls for more representations inside the Kavasian empire, and to a lesser extent, inside the Kingdom of Gysia as well. Both of these countries have large populations of ethnic and religious minorities, which have seemingly been inspired by the Dragonknight's declaration.
