The Battle of the Pyramid
The Conflict
Prelude
As the Cult of Akhemen rose to dominance, its priests declared the ancient gods false and their servants heretics. They were a stain on the might of Kemet, of Old Kemet, the temples were seized, idols shattered, treasures were stolen, and the followers of the Old Pantheon were hunted without mercy including the Cult of Set though they never fully were hunted down.
In response, the Holy Warriors of Anuketem, those who wore jackal helmets and were sworn to protectors of the holy places of the Old Faith, across the land secret calls were made to gather at the Pyramid of Anuketem. They abandoned many of their sites and other places to gather at the pyramid in large, this place was considered the last place untouched by the corruption of Akhemen and his cult, it was pure. The warriors had told any surrounding villages to leave as they might become targets of the Cult and the Royal Army.
Deployment
870 warriors, all fully initiated, clad in ritual armour and jackal helms, many veterans of earlier purges and border wars. Each swore an oath to die before surrendering the Pyramid. Cult of Akhemen / Royal Army of Kemet:
Tens of thousands, drawn from the standing royal host - infantry, charioteers, archers, and priest-commanders empowered by the Cult. The army marched under royal decree, bearing the banners of both crown and cult.
The Engagement
By dawn, the Royal Army had surrounded the pyramid, messengers of the Royal Army were sent to the pyramid to ask for the surrender of the warriors and their pardon for renunciation of the old gods. The messengers return back to the camp of the Royal Army and give the responses to the Pharaoh, which was silence. Nothing more. When the last messenger returned to camp, the warriors of Anuketem, began to rain arrows down upon the legions which stood within their range. The Royal Army would advance upon the complex before them, but the Anuketem warriors funnelled their enemies into narrow approaches where they manage to boiling oils to pour upon them and rain down more arrows. Once they had reached one of the courtyards, a wall of shields was seen with spears and behind men with khopeshes. For hours in each courtyard, they would push back the levies of the Royal Army, slowly a pile of dead was building up, and for those of the lesser levies, seeing the dead piled up brought fear to their eyes as they watched the fanatic heretics they were told about put up a fierce defence. Yet impatience the Pharaoh became and ordered forward his elite units and a mass of archers to rain down hell, the Priests of Akhemen also casted rites to aid the battle. Once the arrows came and the elite units clashed with the warriors, they began to slowly get pushed back till eventually only 100 stood upon the grand pathway as the sun was setting they knew they would not survive the night to see dawn and put up a final defence.
By morning they laid dead upon the pathway under the statues of Anuketem's gaze.
