The fourth and lowest Varna, the Yuan-ti are the servant caste of draconic society. Bearing decidedly serpentine characteristics, the Yuan-Ti are simultaneously the most similar to, and most strange seeming, of all the dragon-kin to humanoid eyes. In the vedas it is written that their mythic ancestor, Nagaraja, commited a terrible sin and was punished by being made to hold up the world. Thus, his children are fated by dharma to hold up the social world through their labor, under the direction of the higher varnas. Little wonder then, that a great many Yuan-ti have embraced the light of Al-Shams, freeing themselves from the constraints of the caste system all together. No surprise then, that other Yuan-ti have turned to radical, snake-venerating cults, which denounce the dragons as being inferior to the serpents. Though it cannot be denied that many look with disdain upon the snake-men, the Yuan-ti are by no means a naturally servile people. Dreams of a better future for the children of Nagaraja burn bright in many cold-blooded hearts.

History
Though the pantheon is called The Dragon Gods, their are three deities within that pantheon who are not, strictly speaking, Dragons. The first is Bixi, the Queen of Dragon Turtles. The second is Agni, the King of Salamanders. The fourth is Nagaraja, the King of Serpents, and the father of the yuan-ti.
According to the Vedas, Nagaraja was once a great enemy of the Dragon Gods. In the first age of the world, he often clashed with them, and schemed to undermine their plans and ambitions. But the threat of the Asura forced Nagaraja to join together with the Dragons against a common enemy. During the Great War Against Darkness, Nagaraja was one of the greatest champions of the Light, winning many victories over the Asura and their demonic allies. He also copulated with a great many elvish women, and it was from these unions that the Yuan-ti were born. Even from birth, they were a bastard people, neither fully humaniod, nor fully reptilian. But it was precisely their mixed heritage that saved them. For when darkness corrupted the elves and turned them against the light (so the vedas tell it) the snake-men remained on the side of righteouness thanks to their cold blood.
Nagaraja and the Yuan-ti made the great migration alongside the dragonkin, and when they arrived the snake-men were given a kingdom with Nagaraja as their god-king. But, now without a common enemy, Nagaraja reverted to his old ways, and began aggressing upon his neighbors, seeking to kill the other gods and seize their lands. In response, the dragon gods invaded the Yuan-Ti kingdom and killed Nagaraja.
Then they decreed that the Yuan-Ti would not be killed for the sins of their creator. But they would no longer be allowed their own kingdom. Instead, they would be distributed throughout the dragonlands and serve as laborers, peasants, and household servants foreveremore. And such has been their fate.
With some exceptions.
