Children of Kea

An alternate version of Earth where 2 key differences changed history: Dragons, and Superpowers. Some things, however, stay the same; namely people and music. A world where humanity and dragons evolved in a competitive and violent rivalry.   Humans have always preferred to live in the now, to focus on improving their lives with technologically. This drive stems from a jealosy toward their draconic bretheren, whom they view as foolish dreamers that waste the size and power they've been blessed with. As soon as humanity could build they would taunt dragons by making building taller than them so humans could finally be taller than their reptilian bretheren, and as soon as humans could build machines that could fly; they realized they could finally hunt Dragons on their own pieces of the sky and win.   The Dragons of Earth, or Terra as they call her, have always wondered why: why do the humans hate them so? Why have the humans always held a competitive nature towards them? Why aren't more humans philosophers? Why don't humans worship a single god? The Dragons are a mighty and proud race of people with a sense of nobility and responsibility towards all those who would take but a moment to listen to what they have to say about the nature of everything. Dragons don't view the humans with malice despite how they are treated by mankind, in fact they often take advantage of this envy by challenging humans to activities with friendly stakes; like racing for game or treasure.   Despite the turmoil that has ravaged the two dominant species through the ages, humans have always managed to keep up with Dragons thanks to a naturally occuring form of organic firepower. Superhuman abilities are a semi-rare gift that individuals can be born with, and anyone born with these kinds of powers are social pariahs due to their similarities to the abilities that Dragons posess.   This is a world about hate. Humanity shows its most vile side in its xenophobia towards anything and anyone that isn't what they consider "normal". This is a world about individuals who are extraordinary in as many ways as their are elements that can be controlled; specifically this story follows one person. A girl born in ancient Asia with a dragon companion permenantlly grafted to her body that accompanies her through the ages, this is ultimatey her story.
