The Shades

A shanty town community built in the shadow of the great lighthouse, on a rock exposed to the sea, it is home to much of the cities labourers and cleaners, as well as many thieves, cut throats and ladies of the night. Once the heartland of the Thieves guild, it is currently gripped in a fierce gang war following the failing guilds reduction in size and power. The residents of the Shades are incredibly poor, few would otherwise want to live here yet a fierce local pride exists, which has made many police investigations difficult in the past.

Demographics

Many of the cities labourers, cleaners, janitors, retail workers, some students, and many vagrants. Coming from many walks of life, backgrounds and ages.

Government

Nominally controlled by the Princes council, the Shades is fairly law less. Once it was controlled by the Thieves guild, who ministered to it and provided informal social services; the current gangs look after their own members by don't appear to care for the wider population, extorting them for protection money and such.

Infrastructure

ramshackle wooden buildings and winding alley ways, a holy order for charitable purposes has constructed several wells and clothes washing areas throughout the shades. Some warehouses and workshops are mixed into the backstreets, and come evening it can feel like every fifth building becomes an inn of some sort. Informal and unlicensed food vendors operate around the clock on the different street corners or out of their own kitchens.

Guilds and Factions

This was once the heartland of the Thieves guild, however as the guilds power has waned many gangs have established themselves in the various districts

Natural Resources

Labour, and by the bucketful. If ever you need a couple of bodies to haul something or carry this to there, then the Shades is your place.
