Dwarven Queen Nearly Killed by Foreign Operatives
On New Year's Eve, just as Her Royal Highness, Queen Riswynn of the Dwarves, Lady of the Scorching Sands was beginning her annual address to the dwarven people, a group of foreign operatives tried to kill the beloved queen. Below is an excerpt from the broadsheets the following day:
Queen Riswynn Survives Attempt on Life
Last night was a harrowing event for the dwarven people. A group of foreign operatives, aided by insurgents in our own clans, attempted to murder our queen and leader. We know that there were at least 5 operatives involved in last night's attack: one Aarakocra, one Goliath identified as one El Gigante, one Elf, two Humans, and one Flying Horse (sans wings). We are waiting on additional information to come from the castle on events last night and the identities of those involved.
Last night, just as the queen was beginning her annual speech to the dwarven people, an Aarakocra flew above the window she was presenting from, and proceeded to use spellcraft on her to pull her through the window and out into the open air. She fell, but as she did so, activated some item on her person that made her disappear from the scene that was still unfolding.
As this atrocity was unfolding, two simultaneous riots erupted in the gathered crowd. One was started by a local druggie, who the Kraghok say is still being interrogated. The other riot was started by a familiar face to many dwarven wrestling fans. Witnesses state that it was none other than local wrestler El Gigante who started the second riot. The junkie's riot was quickly quelled by nearby guards, but El Gigante's riot was harder for the authorities to control. The giant was nearly caught, and had four guards tackle him. Unfortunately the former star and fallen hero was able to summon some dark magic to whisk him away to safety.
The final three operatives: the elf, the human, and the flying horse, then kidnapped a member of the Queen's guard, a Haggen Mage named Elic. They flew him away to their rendezvous point, the warpstone, and took him with them as they fled. They were able to use dark magic once more to force the warpstone operator to comply with their orders. One of their number, a human, was apparently able to operate the stone themself. The group of would-be assassins has fled and the Kraghok are seeking any information that will lead to their capture. Elic, however has been returned, no doubt through his own cunning after escaping his captors. It is unknown where the second human was during the proceedings of the attack last night, so it is advised that dwarves check their valuables at home. Only the warpstone operator last night can confirm the presence of more than one human.
The Kraghok assure us that the Queen is unharmed in a secure location, and is awaiting a full security sweep of the Royal Plateau before her return. They have also placed the Elven Ambassador, Krisswick Ambernock, under arrest for potential involvement. Anyone with information about these threats to our nation are urged to contact the Kraghok clan.
