Halfling

Origins

The Halflings were an attempt on Halfar's part to create a race of allies for the Dwarves. Things... did not turn out that way. Their original size was meant to create a sense of empathy between the two races, while their placement in the Goldengrass Plains offered them the opportunity to feed the Dwarves. Halfar declined to reveal himself at the start as their creator, hoping that the dominoes he had set up would fall as he intended. They did not. Halfar is great at creating things, but plans are apparently not among them. The Halflings quickly came to worship two trees: Mantowë and Nanovë. There was some long-lost squabble between the two that has fuelled several hundred years of hatred between the two groups. When Halfar learned of this, and revealed himself as their creator, he was soundly rejected by the Halflings. They were on their own path now.   At one point, the Nanovëan forces were able to push through the Mantowëans and they began cunnig down the opposing God-Tree-City. If you stood with your back to Mantowë and looked towards Nanovë, the cut would be on your left. As they cut, wounds began opening on each of the Mantowëans' left ankles. The Nanovëans were forced to retreat when a mirrored wound opened on their right ankles. To this day, each Mantowëan, even newborns, have a scar on their left ankle, and Nanovëans on their right. They often have their corresponding ankle revealed to show their scar and prove their allegiance.

Regions

The Halflings are largely located on the Goldengrass Plains.

Stereotypes

StereotypeWhy this Stereotype Exists
Halflings were born of their Tree-Gods. Given their devotion to their tree-gods, this is not an unreasonable assumption, but it is incorrect. Halfar created them, but waited too long in revealing the hand he had in bringing them into the world. His failure with them is a large part of why he has introduced so few races to the world compared to the other First Ones.
Halflings are just thin Dwarves. There are a number of similarites between the two races, especially considering that Halfar was the Template for one and the creator of the other. Even with their similarities, there are many important differences, including that they are not, in fact, the same race.
Halflings are wholesome and wonderful. This is largely true until you are stuck between a Mantowëan and a Nanovëan. When each is faced with the other, they become capable of acts that shock and disgust the common person. Either of them would likely have the same reaction to the actions if the victim were anyone but their enemy.
