Changeling
Origins
Changelings are also known as Athraith are a mageborn race created in Harkinmont to act as spies. While the earlier attempts, Kenku, Tabaxi, and Aarakocra, were based on animalistic designs, those in charge of the Changeling Program took a different tact. While it is unclear what methods and magics were used, what is clear is that this was by far the most successful mageborn race. Able to change their appearance and eat the cuisine of all other races, the Athraith are able to infiltrate and uncover secrets better than anyone else. What is known is that they were built on commission by an unknown party. After their creation, however, several hundred managed to escape. Today, there is an unknown number of them out in the world, and the communities they have built are well-hidden.Regions
The Athraith have built secret communities in cities and villages across Chenravo since their escape. Many only want to live their lives, and are not interested in using their abilities for the reason they were made.Stereotypes
| Stereotypes | Why this Stereotype Exists |
|---|---|
| Changelings don't exist. | This is a stereotype that the Changelings have actively worked to popularize. If people don't think they exist, they won't come looking for them. |
| Changelings want to take control of the communities theey infiltrate. | Even when joining existing communities, Changelings create their own community groups rather than wrest control from the original inhabitants. Their communities are often ruled by council. |
| Changelings are masters of magic. | Changelings, by way of the means of their creation, often have a deep distrust or even fear of magic. Even though they were created in the city of magical research, they are afraid of what too much magic might do to their ability to hide in plain sight. |
Civilization and Culture
Major Organizations
Changeling communities are often ruled by council. These councils have members that are young, middle-aged, and old. The young members are Community Hearts, as they are expected to provide excitement and enthusiasm to the community and the council. The leader of the council is called the Community Hand, as they are expected to be the one to get things done. Older members are called Community Heads. They are expected to pass on the knowledge, stories, and wisdom of the community, and to help cultivate the minds of the next generations. Members of the Council often go by CH, or have those letters as their initials.
