Kaedessa (kay-DESS-ah)

When my colleague learned I was visiting Kaedessa for research, all they had to offer in way of advice was "Oh you poor thing." How could one town be so cursed that the name alone prompts sympathy? - The Author
Kaedessa is an old town along the coast of Chardovil West, nestled between the borders of Vochal to the north, Albyn to the south, and Ashijan to the west.1 Pressed against the Karisman Sea, one could reasonably expect the settlement to grow and expand much like it's southern neighbors of Larulan, potentially merging into a large metropolis from trade. Instead, Larulan has flourished, and Kaedessa has found itself beset by misfortune time and time again.2

Notable Misfortunes

Plague

Circa 1250

Not long after Kaedessa's initial founding, an unknown and deadly plague swept over the town. The Vochalian leadership at the time declared an emergency and placed the town and all of its inhabitants into quarantine.3 No one seems to know whether or not the quarantine has ever been lifted, or if it just goes unenforced.

Cataclysm

1508

Shortly before The Cataclysm destroyed much of Chardovil West, Kaedessa supposedly served as a testing ground for the God of Fire, Kossuth, to gauge what he could get away with before the rest of the Gods took notice.3 Recovered documents from the period show the inhabitants at the time praying to the God of Fire for mercy and protection in the night.4 Presumably, the authors of said documents either perished or fled soon after.2

Infestation

1665

Unfortunately for this blighted town, not long after the inhabitants rebuilt following the The Cataclysm, they found themselves overrun by Oblex.5 Such monsters devoured the citizens, creating perfect copies of their bodies and move about as if they were the individual themselves.4
Last Efforts
Ilyxxa Gethra maintains ownership over the town, and supposedly continues to try and purge the Oblex intruders. However, losing her associate, Zise Altrix, to the oozes, many speculate the town may finally be beyond saving.
A hastily scrawled note is attached to the bottom of the page, simply reading "I think it may be time for me to leave. - T.A."

This poor city suffered so much, especially the infestation part is terrifying. I absolutely loved the handwritten note as well as the map.
