Gigantes

Named after giant beings that populated Dwerring homeworlds before the Migration, Gigantes is a catch-all term given to the unique beasts that are occasionally created by the residual dimensional energies swirling around Char Navash (or, even more occasionally, intentionally created by a bored god or Bolgrim).   Every Gigant begins as a regular creature that somehow stumbles into a small planar rift or other place of power (or is captured by a bored god or Bolgrim...you get the idea). Char Navash is at the centre of a complex planar system already, and the effects of this have only been increased by the Orkrell's apocalypse, the interdimensional travel of the Dwerrin and the meddling of the Bolgrim.    Interaction with planar energies has unpredictable effects, but is usually harmless. Every now and then, however, it will transform a normal creature into a huge behemoth capable of tearing through armies and settlements just by walking in the wrong direction.   However, Gigantes are not always violent, and many live out the rest of their elongated lifespans peacefully. Elsewhere in the world, some cultures even revere them as emissaries from the gods. Most people who have left Hrashchar's cities have encountered a Gigant somewhere along the line, even if it was just a view from a distance.   But violent Gigantes do exist. When carnivores or particularly ill-tempered beasts are transformed, it doesn't take much to spark a rampage. Hunger, anger and boredom have all led to the destruction of farms and villages.    Dedicated military and mercenary forces exist across the continent to deal with Gigant rampages. It's a dangerous profession, but well paid, legal work that can offer a good change of pace for bored town guards, ex-soldiers and other physical types.
