Abilities: Security
The security skill applies to all manner of maneuvers that can be classified as breaking and entering. This can include a wide array of sub-skills such as picking mechanical locks, cracking safes and vaults, disarming and outflanking security systems, bypassing security codes, and hotwiring vehicles. Those who specialize in Security do not necessarily come across their skill unlawfully, working as locksmiths, security guards, and home/industrial security specialists. Most Security rolls involve rolling Wits + Security or Dexterity + Security depending on the type of maneuver attempted. Additionally, large scale plans like a bank heist would require an Intelligence + Security roll to formulate a plan of action and anticipate the proper tools and equipment necessary to get the job done. Adequate tools and planning are the basis of a good security breach, so characters taking this skill will usually develop Underworld, Bureaucracy, Police, or Street influences to gain access to the tools and classified information of the trade.
It must be noted here that Security does not include the ability to hack a computer terminal or Artificial Intelligence that may be integrated into a 2840 security system (That requires a additional Intelligence + Computer Science roll). When dealing with a computer-guided security system, the Security skill allows you to bypass the system by disabling the power, fooling the biometrics, or tampering with the hardware of the system directly. Attempting to change the computer’s programming, or adding/removing data involves an Intelligence + Computer Science roll instead.

Ability Levels:
0 | Abysmal: If you find yourself in front of a locked terminal or trapped behind a locked door, you're going to be there for a very, very long time. |
1 | Novice: You have a basic DIY set up for your home security needs. You have the tools for cracking weak passwords and basic mechanical locks. |
2 | Practiced: You manage to get into places you should not be on a regular basis. Your tools and practices for obtaining passwords and rewiring circuits are getting sophisticated. |
3 | Competent: You can make a living setting up (or breaking down) personal security solutions. You can bypass complex mechanical locks and fool biometric locks with enough time and planning. |
4 | Expert: You can make a living setting up (or breaking down) corporate security solutions. You are well known for breaking and entering—both in the real world and the digital one. |
5 | Master: Governments either pay you big money to set up their security systems or send you on missions to break down the systems of rival nations. You have designed and/or bested some of the best security measures ever devised. |
