Strategic Interveners

One core principle of almost all Indigo is that of Guidance with Minimal Interference. Just as a parent sometimes has to go hands off and let their kid try things on their own, many mature civilizations have found it’s best to let younger ones find their own way. There may be nudges away from or over great filters, here or there; otherwise, they simply watch and guide.
Some indigo disagree with this policy. They think it’s highly unethical to keep knowledge and resources from the burgeoning human superorganism. Why make them suffer catastrophic consequences we can prevent? There is suffering going on in the world Indigo has the power to mitigate, but chooses not to.
A bunch of them have decided to do something about it. They have left the greater Indigo, civilly disobeying their “prime directive,” and set out to go and make personal change. There’s enough of them to have formed a loose coalition, most commonly called Strategic Interveners. Their mission is simple: Use your available knowledge and resources to help humanity and other civilizations progress, as painlessly and messlessly as possible. Tactics are varied. Some reveal themselves to humans and work with them politically and sneakily to change the trajectory of human history. Some work directly in medicine and engineering to create tech that should, in theory, push us forward. Some SIs simply go around and sabotage anything they can that conflicts with the mission. All of them roughly agree on where human civilization ought to (inevitably will?) end up, so they all value the varied actions.
(Of course, this organization has spawned another organization dedicated to opposing them, but I can’t talk all day about this group recursion.)
If you polled the few thousand humans presently aware of Indigo, you’d probably get a majority saying they want the help, or at least the knowledge. From this perspective, it’s actually greater Indigo society that is rooted in the controversial principles. We’re people, too. Treat us like it!
Still, there must be some legitimate reason so many advanced civilizations have decided to go more hands off. Hopefully, one day, we’ll be wise enough to understand, ourselves.
Fun Fact: A significant portion of Strategic Interveners comes from the wells — former wishrats who decided they weren’t doing enough to help from their limited position in that organization. Every wishrat knows a few people who left. Interestingly, a decent number of Indigo also *become* wishrats after spending time as interveners. They all say they’ve come to understand why humanity needs to learn its own lessons. But not that many SIs defect, so the jury’s still out as to who is really right. It’s humanity’s ball to prove what we truly need.
